EGR replacement - no cure

Unread post by ThoreT »

in my 2.7 HDI 2005, i recently started experiencing hesitation and missing during acceleration, espeially from low speed. Not surprisingly, I got a P0404 showing the front EGR as blocked. The unit was replaced (with an original Valeo unit), but the change did not have any effect. I also had error codes for airflow, which I'm fairly sure is associated wit the EGR. To be sure, I swapped my airfilter box with airflow sensors from a C6 with no errors, this did not change anything.

When replacing the EGR, does it have to be initalised from Lexia? I do have Lexia, and just barely started to look into it, but does anyone know of any guidance for initialisation and function testing?

Co-incidentally, befor theis happened, I had to replace the front turbo vane actuator. I can't see this co-relates in any way to the EGR problem? The turbo vane error code is gone, and the symptoms different (The actuator failure resulted in occational limp-mode that was rectified by stopping and starting the engine).

Kind regards,

Thore

Hi Thore

Unfortunately Citroen don't provide any detailed info on this fault for the 2.7 HDi DT17 with Siemens EMS.

In case it provides some pointers (with the caveat that this is for a DV5 engine), this is what is stated, so may or may not be relevant or useful... also this has the suffix of 19 to the main P0404 code, so again, may be entirely different and applies to Bosch.
Fault Code: P0404 19
Description of Fault:
  • EGR valve: Power too high. Detection of an electrical fault on the control line of the exhaust gas recirculation valve: Power too high.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Vehicle driving
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the initialisation of the EGR valve
  • Request for closing of the EGR valve
  • Deactivation of cleaning of the EGR valve
  • Deactivation/cut-off of the cruise control or speed limiter
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Invalid engine torque information for the electric handbrake function
  • Inhibiting of the runaway detection
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: "SERVICE" warning lamp, Engine diagnosis warning lamp
Symptoms:
  • Engine hesitating, cutting out
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Lack of power
  • Deactivation/cut-off of the cruise control or speed limiter
  • Banging/knocking/creaking
Suspect Areas:
  • Exhaust gas recirculation valve
  • Exchanger of the exhaust gas recycling valve with bypass
  • Engine management ECU
  • Electrical harness
  • Connectors
