I realise that what I am about to describe is not diagnosable totally within a forum, but I am just looking for something to watch or history of others having the same problem
I have a C4 Grand Picasso Exclusive Blue EHDI 1.6, my wife was out driving last night and after stopping to drop a friend off she got back in the car, turned on the ignition, the gear selector was in Neutral, but the car vehemently said that the car was in reverse and so would not start, the reverse lights were on, but the reverse camera was not, it didn’t matter how many times the restart was tried it would not, called out the AA and as normal, as soon as recovery is requested the car started up normally
Has anyone suffered this problem before? Is there something off the bat I can look at?
Thanks in advance

Re: C4GP weird problem - Reverse when Not
First thing that springs to mind is the reversing light switch malfunction.
If it put the reversing lights on then the car may have assumed that reverse was selected and inhibited starting.
Long shot though.

Either what Steve says ^ or a fault with the gear selector. I'm assuming you have a piloted manual gearbox & Clutch.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Thanks for this, I have told her if and when it happens again to get the recovery process started first and maybe they can plug in the computer and find a fault. it just seems strange that it happened and was over 30 minutes later and evrything is back to normal, the only problem being a slight reduction in confidence in the carmyglaren wrote: 08 Sep 2024, 10:45 First thing that springs to mind is the reversing light switch malfunction.
