2.0 HDI 165 FAP - P0131 Oxygen Sensor Fault

Unread post by bahcekapili »

Dear guys. I got frequently this error (P0131). The car starts active regeneration as soon as weight of soot reaches 1 g/l so makes every 150 ton200 km active regeneration. As soon as starts active regeneration the P0131 occures again as i clear the fault before.

Do you think this frequent active regenerations are related to faulty oxygen sensor? I bought a Topran oxygen sensor instead oem product but not changes yet. Very difficult location on 2.0 HDI.

Ok. I changed oxygen sensor with new Topran made one. Now we have another problem. At 100 km weight of soot reaches to 5 g/l :) Is there a learning process of new sensor?

Hi, the faults should be read and cleared after the replacement, but there is no programming required for the replacement of the Emissions oxygen sensor on this vehicle. However it is not only the sensor that can cause this fault which is a short circuit:
Fault Code: P0131
Description of Fault:
  • Oxygen sensor: Short circuit to earth. Voltage less than 0,5 V for 100 ms.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Slightly higher fuel consumption
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness
  • Connectors
  • Oxygen sensor
  • Engine ECU

So I would check the electrical connection carefully, especially the plugs and pins, wiring sleeves for wear or poor connections.

Fault Code: P0171
Description of Fault:
  • Oxygen sensor: Estimated temperature too high or too low, sensor heating no longer working.
  • Description of the diagnostics: Electrical fault detected for 2 seconds.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • A start from engine cold and driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness
  • Connectors
  • Oxygen sensor
  • Engine management control unit

So again this could be an electrical / supply / earth issue.

Problem solved with original Oxygen sensor. Now no problems no codes. The regeneration process is now ok. With 3rd party oxygen sensor (Topran made) active regeneration intervals was about 100 - 150 km and now with same conditions it is 400 - 450 km. I remember a member said all sensors except for originals are junk. It is right.
