DS5 Eolys & diesel tank removal

Unread post by philmcnz »

First time poster, and NZ mechanical illierate here.

I own a 2016 DS5 Blue HDi180.

It's in for servicing at the moment and the garage informs me they have discovered an 'eolys' tank that needs to be filled. Local main dealers are no help because there are so few DS5s in New Zealand.

Car has done 107,000 km.

They essentially have it sorted but the thing that is troubling me most, apart from the ignorance down here about this issue/function, is that the garage says they need to remove the diesel tank to top up the eolys! This can't be true can it??

Generally it's possible to refill the Eolys tank without removing the main fuel tank; however, never say never - PSA can invent all sorts of new things!

The Diesel tank does not need to be removed....

It is gravity-fed from a filling kit. The Eolys tank is hidden behind the heat shield. If your garage doesn't know this, then I'd avoid them altogether as it seems like they don't have a clue.

If it’s a blue HDi then maybe it should be sdblue that’s needed. If so the filler cap is under the boot carpet towards the rear left I think, but definitely in the boot under the carpet

That has nothing to do with the Particle filter additive.

These are 2 separate systems that do different jobs.

The SCR system uses Adblue to treat NOx.
The DPF system treats particulate matter and may or may not use assisted filter regeneration depending on model.

In either case, none of these operations requires removal of the Fuel tank...

I'm still amazed how great this place is.
A first time poster in NZ asks a question & gets the info required almost by return with no cost & no fuss.
Dunno where else you'd get that kind of service :-D

Many thanks for all this. I know all about the Ad Blue system and this is not that. I'm not sure my garage is that far behind the citroën dealership down here in awareness or knowledge of this issue but I will pass on these comments to them in the morning. Thanks again .

A word of explanation.

The DS5 is no longer sold in New Zealand; hasn't been since 2017. It was I think always a poor seller but the new National distributors stoppoed importing them when they took over. I got a deal on mine in that context.

So they are exceedingly uncommon - to the point that the local agents were not of much help yesterday to my garage.

I'm happy to advise that my garage had independently worked out they didn't need to remove the diesel tank :)

when the eolys tank is topped up it will need a diagnostic to tell the car since it does not have a level measurement, only a calculated level based on how much it has been told is in and how many miles done and fuel tank fills. Without the diagnostic you will get warnings about a low level when the calcs suggest it will be low.

You don't actually advise of the quantity of additive put in on most PSA vehicles, just reset the additive counter to zero.

On this vehicle it must be reset to Zero, but first the additive system must also be 'primed', following the procedure in the diagnostic tool. If this is not done and there is an air lock (especially if the fluid has been allowed to run out / or was low), then it can prevent the pump from working and this can cause issues with the pump if not addressed.
