e-berlingo xl - tow bar?

Unread post by jammeg78 »

Hi

I'm looking for advice on whether the xl version of the eberlingo can fit a tow bar. I've not been able to speak with someone from Citroen who can give me an answer. I'd like to buy a used version.

Researching online doesn't give a clear answer. Several uk towbar companies suggest they can fit a towbar to this version but an online Citroen brochure says that 'tow bar preconditioning' is available only in the shorter wheelbase version. The van versions appear to be able to fit a towbar to both wheelbase lengths..

I've found an online owner's manual which doesn't say either way.

The pergeot brochure for the e-rifter also says that tow bar pre conditioning is only available in the shorter length.

I hope someone of this forum has a definitive answer.

Many thanks.

Look at your VIN plate/sticker, there should be 4 weights listed on it. If the first 2 rows of weights are the same number or the second row doesn't have a number at all the the vehicle is not approved for towing.
However, you have not said what you want the towbar for? Some people use towbars for things like luggage boxes or bike carriers.
The mk1 Citroen C1 for example is not approved for towing however it is still possible to buy a towbar for it, technically if you are using it for an off the ground bike carrier or luggage box then you are not actually towing.

Thanks for replying. I've not bought a vehicle yet and there is not one nearby to look at. I did phone a garage selling one to see if they would check the VIN plate. They didn't want to and said you can't fit a tow bar but it wasn't a Citroen garage so I'm not sure if they knew!

I can try another garage to see if they will share the VIN details

It is only to be used for a bike rack. I need to carry 4 bikes and won't be able to fit them inside.

In case someone else is looking for this information later:

The XL version is allowed to tow 750/750kg until 2022, and 0kg/0kg from 2023 model year onwards.
The M version is allowed to tow 750/750kg regardless of model year.

The VIN plate has a hyphen (-) instead of a tow masses on the later XL models.
