Noisy C3 Picasso

Unread post by vicitroen »

Hello, I am a newbie. I've already written this but it disappeared or this might be a duplicate. So it's a C3 Picasso 115 bhp diesel 2013. Bought it in March. It was all quiet when test driven. Dealer carried out service and a few bits - cam belt, disc pads etc. It then started a clank noise when cold/not hot. The clank seemed to be on just one cylinder at 1500 to 2000 revs and sounds like 2 hammers being knocked together. Dealer reckoned a new injector - old one failed - had not been coded but the noise pre-dated the injector change. Still clanking some 2K miles later, although much less than just after the pre-delivery service. Citroen dealership says it's normal(!?). No error codes showing and all injectors are coded. Anyone any ideas please? vic

No, not normal at all. The engine should run very sweetly and sound like a fine Swiss watch. A video that clearly demonstrates the noise would substantially assist in the diagnosis...

Ah now there's the problem. All my devices that record - phones - have a wonderful system for noise reduction which inconveniently filters out the noise. I tried recording it for the garage without success. I can plainly hear our conversation - " that noise there" but not the noise. But very many thanks for showing an interest. When the noise first appeared, it was almost like the "ends" going but it's ameliorated to an exaggerated diesel knock, probably on one cylinder. It doesn't do it straight away - usually after about 1 km - and is limited to the 1500 to 2000 rev range. Doesn't always do it and certainly not once properly hot - perhaps 10ish kms. Once it's decided not to make the noise, the engine is wonderful. As ever, the problem with garages is that you talk to someone at the desk, rarely the mechanic and even if you're lucky enough to get a mechanic, they seem very keen to dismiss the problem. We're now thinking of perhaps going to a diesel specialist ( non car manufacturer allied ) Cheers Vic
