Central locking issues after doner ecu

Unread post by bobhoskins »

Hello all,

I'm stuck at the moment after replacing my original faulty ecu with a doner ecu kit for my Citroen Berlingo 2010 van.

Everything is working apart from the central locking: I have to lock each door (front and back) manually but that still leaves the side doors unlocked as there's no key barrel. I can also lock remotely but only the back and sides doors, leaving the front unlocked.

The original key was a three button (lock/unlock plus a sides and back door only lock); the key on the donor that I'm now using is a two-button key and a 2008 ecu donor model.

If I program the old key, would that solve the locking issues? Or perhaps the ecu is not compatible with my model. The auto-electrician told me this ecu kit would work perfectly, alas it hasn't and I'm stuck as to know what to do apart from program the old three button key. Does this make sense?

You can't re-programme the old key. They are locked to the original ECU.

If you fitted a matched BSI, ECU and keys then they should work OK together, but the BSI may need reconfiguration to match the doors and locks fitted to your car.

...but you'll lose functionality of the third button option which was obviously not on the donor vehicle, so was not the same as your original one.

... So the locks and doors on my van couldn't be matched on the donor, two-button fob/ECU/BSI using something like diagbox?
I'm assuming what you're saying is, for all doors to be assigned to 2-buttons, that option isn't available to be programmed into the donor which is already fixed and a different set up to my van?

What was the third button on the original fob for? Have you tried re-synching the key? Assuming that the ECU / BSI is matched and the immobiliser is working and you can start the van now?

Edit, just re-read the original post which gives the buttons. Possibly the van is wired differently to the done vehicle hence; it might be possible to change the config in the BSI to the 3 button set up, which may give global locking / unlocking on the 2 button key.

Alternatively, it may be possible to program a new 3 button key to have the original functionality, but this may require obtaining the security code for the vehicle that donated the BSI.

Thanks for all your responses.

I tried the internal central locking button but only the sides and back lock as per the remote (when engine is running it reads 'boot open' when in fact it is locked.

The internal back door/sides button clicks but does nothing to lock as if it's obsolete. I'm not sure programming a 3 button key would make any difference, seems like a BSI issue?

It's like locking is reversed and bypasses the front for the back and sides. when the front door is closed it unlocks.

What was the original fault that the ECU/BSI was replaced?

Cant think i have seen a (Mk3) Berlingo with a 2 button remote, was the donor parts definitely off a Berlingo?
I think initially it will be a case of going through the BSI configuration. Paying particular attention to model, Locking Type & body type (including door configuration).
It may be from a Multispace type model for example that has a tailgate instead of rear barn doors or from a model that never had side doors fitted so the BSI may not be expecting to see inputs from the door switches.

Just received reg of the donor: Citroën Berlingo Multispace 1.6 HDi (90bhp) XTR 5d 2008

Mine is a Citroen Berlingo 1.6 HDi 75hp 6dr 2010

Looks like you were right about it being Multispace!
