I've seen a couple of posts in the forum about DS5 mirrors but nothing that's exactly the symptoms of my car so am wondering what the best course of action might be.
The nearside mirror only has stopped folding or unfolding.
I can move the mirror manually quite easily once past the initial resistance of the 'resting' position, both forwards 90° and backwards 90°. There is no noise when moving manually or attempting to fold automatically. It almost feels like there's no mechanism at all inside except for the fact that it sort of twitches by about 5mm when activating the folding.
Does it sound like a permanent fault even though there is no physical damage and no known instances of the mirror being pushed accidentally?
Are there any other checks I can make before needing to resort to repair/replacement?
Thanks.

Yes, check the actual wiring in the door aperture:- this is a week point and a break, over time from opening and closing the door can weaken the wires leading to non operation of some functions. You may need to remove the protective sleeve first to check the condition for breaks.

Re: DS5 nearside wing mirror not moving when operating fold/unfold
Thanks for the suggestion Marc
I'd not considered that given that all other door functions work fine (lighting, indicators, window, etc.) I'll see if I can take a look tomorrow without causing any damage of my own, to see if there are broken wires.
I've had similar happen to my old C4 boot hatch where the wires for the opening mechanism completely broke in two so can understand it's possible.
If what you're saying is indeed the cause, I hope the warranty I got from the dealership is sufficient to cover repair

There are multiple wires for different functions, so it's perfectly normal for some functions to work but not others - which may indicate a break in a specific wire.
