Odd One, 2012 C4 Intermittent Indicators

Unread post by Sloppysod »

Hi, my neighbour has just come in to me and says his Sister-in-laws C4 needs a new drivers seat belt to solve an issue.🤔.

The problem is the indicators work sometimes but not others, randomly.

Seems a bit odd to me, any ideas - Cheers

Oh new Seat beltbset is about £350!

That's a new one on me!

Sounds more like an earth, comms unit or fusebox issue Stu.

Cheers Mark,
My Thoughts exactly, I have told them to let me run a full diagnostics check on it, I think the garage who looked at it only have a generic diagnostic kit.
When I get the codes I will be back for some help if I have not spotted the obvious!! - Wish me luck!

Don't forget to get the VIN whilst you're at it.

Hi Marc,
Taken a bit of time but here we are, the VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. I carried out a full Global Check and found six faults, what do you think?

1st Pass
  • Built-in Systems Interface BSI2010 ( 2 Faults )
    B132B 15 - Button backlighting fault
    B1805 62 - Starter fault
  • Engine management ECU HDI_SID807_BR2 ( 2 Faults )
P11B2 - Measurement of the EGR exchanger bypass position.
    U1213 - Intersystems CAN.
  • Engine relay unit BSM_2010 ( 2 Faults )
    B113D 15 - Right-hand dedicated daytime lamp fault
    B113E 15 - Left-hand dedicated daytime lamp fault

Manually cleared two of the faults, and then carried out a BSI reset
Both DRL Bulbs were Okay.
This is the final global test

  • Built-in Systems Interface BSI2010 ( 1 Faults )
    B132B 15 - Button backlighting fault

  • Engine management ECU HDI_SID807_BR2 ( 2 Faults )
P11B2 - Measurement of the EGR exchanger bypass position.

  • Engine relay unit BSM_2010 ( 2 Faults )
    B113D 15 - Right-hand dedicated daytime lamp fault
    B113E 15 - Left-hand dedicated daytime lamp fault

This will be the same for B113D 16, but for the Left-hand DRL:
Fault Code: B113D 15
Description of Fault:
  • Right-hand dedicated daytime lamp fault: Short circuit to positive or open circuit.
  • Description of the diagnostics:
    • Lamps controlled
    • Open circuit or short circuit to positive detected for 2 seconds
  • Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: Engine running.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Absence of malfunctioning and activation/deactivation of the control
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Unwanted activation of the lamp (without control)
  • The lamp cannot be activated
Suspect Areas:
  • Headlamp
  • Engine fusebox
  • Electrical harness

I don't have the specific descriptor for B132B 15, except for it's 'Button backlighting fault: Open circuit or short circuit to positive'.

Fault Code: P11B2
Description of Fault:
  • Measurement of the position of the EGR exchanger by-pass: Short circuit to positive
  • Description of the diagnostics: Voltage higher than 4,8 V for 500 ms.
  • Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: Engine running
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes from a cold engine, until the coolant temperature reaches 80°C
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Noise
Suspect Areas:
  • EGR exchanger with bypass
  • Position switch for the EGR exchanger by-pass
  • Electrical harness
  • Connectors

Cheers Marc, I am in Scotland for 17 days now and it looks that I will have to run the checks again.

As both issues could be down to the fact that the engine was not running for long during the tests - my error rushing - I should have told them to wait until I come back from holiday!
However, I am pleased that neither related to the indicator fault - I was hoping for a residual fault to be held in the cars memory.
Apologies if I have wasted you time - I'll have the engine running all the time - next time!!.
