Citroen C5 Tourer Anti pollution fault

Unread post by completediv »

Hi

My C5 Tourer 2010 2.0L Diesel 163bhp had a very expensive MOT trip to the garage in February and returned to the garage within a couple of days and spent most of March, April, and May there with a multitude of mainly ECU/BSI faults. Since then it has more or less functioned correctly apart from a more On than Off Anti Pollution fault. I've just bought a cheap OBD reader for checking a Yamaha motorcycle and thought Id try it on the C5 and it read the fault.

Its showing a 'P0487 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Throttle Control Circuit A /Open' fault. Can anyone let me know what this is exactly and is it a fix or investigation
a basic mech (me) could manage?

Any help gratefully accepted. I love the car but its driving me nuts

Thanks

Seems to be an issue with the EGR-valve (internal issue w the sensor that monitors how much it is opened) or with the wiring to that sensor.
I have various repair handbooks and wiring diagrams for C5 mk1, Xantia, XM, Berlingo and C3 mk1.
I have Lexia/Diagbox (Sweden) and Servicebox/sedre

Thanks for your replies Marc and citroenguy. As I said I'm a basic mechanic so I need to ask is the Air Mixer a part of the EGR valve or something different?

The Air Doseur does the following:
  • Monitors the inlet pressure so as to optimise the exhaust gas recycling (EGR) rate.
  • Prevents air from passing into the inlet circuit when the engine is switched off (cut-off function)
  • Regulates the temperature when the particle filter (FAP) is being regenerated

The air mixer/dosuer is correct. I mixed it up since i only have Docbackup Servicebox.

It is a big plastic valve on the inlet manifold, that does the above things

No.7?
Yep, and until OPR 12382 it can also divert between intercooled and non intercooled air.

Hi Marc

I thought reattaching a loose vacuum line had sorted this fault, but 100 miles later it was back, so I removed the throttle bodies and found damage to the connecting arm on this Vacuum Circuit part on the main 'A' circuit - see attached photos. Is this part replaceable as a separate part or do I need to replace entire throttle body (it has twin air doseur)? It looks like someone has damaged this part previously, do they just pop on to the damper mechanism?

Can you help me with some part numbers for this issue. My car is a C5 Tourer 163hp diesel VIN No. is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Can you give me part numbers and correct names for the following

the entire throttle body unit
the Vacuum part - pictured - which is on the active circuit
and also the seal for the top of the throttle body/doseur

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide

Hi Marc

Thanks for getting back to me with that information, I appreciate it. I was hoping that the vacuum link mechanism (I don't know it's correct description) and the seal ring would be available as separate parts. The only option is to replace the entire unit?

If that's the case I'll try and swap the one on the other mixer valve/flap over as it appears that it's never used/is completely redundant and they both look as though they operate in the same way. What do you think? £422 is making my eyes water!!

Thanks again

Hi Marc

I'm going for the repair kit. Ideally I'd go for the Autodoc complete module but I cant find anywhere with stock. I think I've found the gasket

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285480763614

If anybody out there knows where I can source a complete Engitech ENT310101 Throttle body module please let me know.

Thanks for all your help Marc. Cheers
