406 hi frequency remote central locking key

Hi frequency (2 button ) RCL key on 97 406 does not work after dead batteries were replaced. Circuit may be faulty as it had not functioned for some time. I've heard that these remotes need to be "re-trained". Does anyone know the procedure? Garage says key circuit and door receiver will need to be replaced to ensure repair, costing 300+ euro.

Hi
You can always get a pair of RF remotes & the receiver out of a scrapped 406.
You can swop the metal key blades from your keys over to the new remotes & the receiver is located behind the glovebox.
