Citroen C5 Cambelt change
Thank you Marc for providing the guide to replacing the cambelt on my DW12FC engine somewhere on this forum (can’t find it now after a glass of Shiraz).The only difficult part which I am having difficulty with is the starter motor displacement so as to access the crankshaft locking pin aperture. I would be grateful for the instruction list for this task.

No 'F' in this engine, just DW12C Don.

Marc, As we say in Aussie, there is no “f”in bananas. My incorrect code was influenced by my Crossback engine engine code which is DW10 FC.
Back to topic. I don’t understand how removing the accessories belt gives access to the 8mm pinning hole in the side of the block which sits behind the starter motor. I am a zed grade mechanic so I would appreciate guidance.

No worries, it's all in the original guide and according to that if it needed the alternator removing it would state, so I guess just loosening the belt will suffice - but bear in mind the guide assumes the vehicle is on a hoist...... I'll have to write one up, so check back here later for the link.

So is the pin hole behind the accessories belt or the starter motor? The guide does not say and the diagram is somewhat unclear.

Without having the vehicle to see, I'd have to say it should be visible with the belt removed - because PSA generally go the whole hog - so if it the alternator needed removing, they'd certainly have it listed as a required operation.

Ok so in case you want to remove the alternator (which also involves the removal of the fuel filter and the necessary plugging and bleeding of that), here's the procedure:

Agree with your statement in penultimate post and the imbibing of Shiraz in ultimate post. I think I will revert to clamping of ring gear and marking of belts method to ensure timing spot on in replacement of belt process. That will give me more time in the cellar. I did say I am a zed grade mechanic.
I hope I don’t have to replace alternator any time soon.

P.S. I had to use plenty of heat on crankcase bolt to melt strong threadlocker and then use impact wrench to release same even though instruction says “DO NOT”. I am typing this standing in the naughty boy’s corner.

Not wanting to rely on good luck, I have watched many YouTube videos to assist in exploring how to “peg the crankshaft flywheel “ as suggested by the guide provided by Marc. My Detective Clousseau instinct led me to watching Land Rover Freelander 2 timing belt replacement videos as this model uses the 2.2 litre HDI engine along with Ford Transit utility vehicles. The Freelander video detailed removal of the starter motor followed by showing the insertion of a 8 mm diameter rod through a hole in the engine body into a hole in the flywheel, all easy to view by the removal of the starter motor. I investigated the location of a like hole in my car by viewing the similar location after crawling under the C5 with body flexing inspired by watching the Paris Olympic gymnastics events. I managed to insert an 8 mm rod in a similar way to the watched Freelander video by moving the crankshaft back and forth via the 22 mm nut at the RHS wheel arch and using a small torch and mechanic’s mirror. Thankfully, the end result was alignment of all pegging elements for the next phase of the job as per the process detailed in the Resource section of the forum.
It would be very helpful to future users of the “official instruction” to include the amplification of the “peg the crankshaft” instruction with the paraphrasing my description of the job. Fortunately I have the time being retired to indulge myself in such forays into mechanical (mis) adventures.
