battery management unit Repair?

Diagnostics suggest my protection switch and battery management unit may be causing erroneous fault messages,
Parts do not seem to be available from citroen. can they be repaired? Can they be obtained from a scrapper?

These are still showing as available in parts. Depends which element you want as there are multiple components that are not the same as other models.

Is it likely that this could be responsible for frequent alarms about ABS, ESP, brake faulty, etc?

Can't really answer that without a proper diagnostic scan and any fault codes. Highly unlikely as the issues you have mentioned are more likely to do with a wheel speed sensor, or the electrical connections to the ESP ECU.
