BSM replacement

Unread post by Eliasson »

Hi

Car info: Citroën C5 (MK1)? 2002 liftback
DCRFN petrol 2.0l 100.0kW
VIN: Can post if needed, don't know if it's discouraged to post online

My mother is having problems with her car that the high beams stick on or won't turn on. I was able to fix it by knocking on the relay so I concluded that it needed replacement. I bought a new relay(FBR51ND10-W1) and took the PCB out and brought it to a professional shop to be replaced. They are scared of damaging the PCB because the relay is glued on and don't want to do it without permission.
I don't have pictures at the moment, I don't live close to the shop or my parents and forgot to take them.

Anybody have some input, should I let them try or just buy a new/used one? The old PCB works fine otherwise and don't want to ruin it unnecessarily.
If I should buy a replacement does anybody know a good shop/site for Citroën? I struggled to find it online, maybe I'm not using the correct search term.

Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff. I can then provide you with the correct part number. It's not really worth all the hassle of pulling these to bits - a replacement is preferable - at least you know all the components are new.

I'd say check price & availability first (also make sure its not on back order from dealer).
If not you have nothing to loose by attempting replacement of the relay. Plenty of people on here have replaced internal relays on BSM's & BSI's with success.

Here you go:

(1) Siemens Engine Fuse Box, part: 6500Y1, £402.72 inc UK VAT @ 20%.

These are still showing as available, but you may be able to obtain a working used one using the part number I've supplied above to see if that resolves your issue.

Plenty here - some from China, and plenty of genuine listed ones for half the price...

Thanks for the help. I'm going to purchase a second for cheap and try that first. One last question if you don't mind, I drove and picked up the PCB and it looks slightly different(pic). The connections look the same so I'm guessing it's just an older version? 6500Y1 vs 6500Y3? If these are interchangeable is it possible to have a picture for which fuse is which. I've looked online but not been successful.

No, they are not interchangeable - they may look the same but are not.

Stick to the correct part number I have provided.

Problem has been fixed.
Since this is my mother's car she had ultimate say and she didn't want to spend to much.
She wanted to try to replace the relay and it worked. For people that might have the same problem:
1 Removed PCB (few clips and one 13mm bolt)
2 Desoldered with copper wire
3 Used a fresh boxcutter and razor to "saw" the relay loose. Went through a couple of pins until I could jiggle it. Just take your time to not damage the board.
4 Cleaned it
5 Soldered new relay and added a bit of nailpolish on one edge to "glue" it. Just make sure the connections are solid, don't rush.

Thanks for the help.

Apologies for revieving an old thread but, the problem has started to reappear with the headlight not working on occasion. Just wanted to let people that might finds this know.
Maybe my soldering wasn't perfect, there were ugly black stains by one of the pins. I soldered a new relay and it seems to work again but it was a struggle. I might need some better equipment.
I going to purchase a second one and try that, since I don't want my mother to loose the headlight in the middle of winter when it's dark.

I read that there is a problem with looking up parts so I don't expect this to be answered but I found a used one here in Iceland from a C3 2004 BMS B5 but I couldn't see if it was an 6500Y1. I'll most likely buy it and compare them but if someone knows it would be nice.
The VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] on the junker if that helps.

Good luck to everyone and thank you
