My C5 finally scrapped.

Unread post by seanrx »

My semi trusty 54 plate Exclusive 2.0L is finally off the road. Almost 20yrs and I owned for 9.

A shame, that petrol engine ran great but a repair on a suspension pipe and power steering meant a large £800 bill.
And only if I could then source a cheap NFP steering pipe for less than £300? Bonkers. Then a £335 tax for the privilege of driving it.

So I received scrap price, £217. Perhaps worth more in parts, but have no time or storage space. Did save the spare wheel though!

Been a good car I think, only in it's last 3 years the repair bills were increasing.

A lot of the NFP suspension pipes have been remanufactured. Were none of the ones in the various posts correct for you?

Hellfire! Definitely not.

Am really beginning to resent these tax rates.
Since searching for another car, a £160 rate is most I want to pay.
But not yet, want to enjoy being carless for a few weeks.

If you think that's bad, try running a couple of C6's at £750 each ](*,)

£750 each, is quite a bill!

My old C5, i've been doing some maths on ownership cost over 9 years.
Car cost, all repairs and maintenance, insurance and tax.
8.5 -9000 pounds. So £1000 per year max. Is that a good figure?
And 50,500 miles.

Repairs include fluids, filters and other upkeep items.

I don't think Tax and Insurance should be included in your calculations as these are a legal requirements and you made those choices when you bought the car.

I don't want to discourage you from keeping a loved car but... that equates to 6p a mile which seems reasonable to me :-P
One of my 6's has cost me 93p NOT incl. tax and insurance which I consider as not the cars fault and something I have to donated to use it
