405 turbo diesel fuel consumption

Post by excel789 »

Been logging the last few fill ups and the mpg works out at 38, mostly town driving, aircon on 75% of the time. Does that sound about right?

Yep, sounds on the good side of about right for town work with aircon. The 405's not a light car either.

38 mpg is the figure I get for town work. I get up to 46mpg doing 65/70 mph.

Just out of interest,i have a Xantia Est,1.9TD,with 115bhp.My new job involves a 450 commute a week.10m of motorway, then a bit of town, then fast A roads.Used the mpg calculator on the links pages,38 mpg.Thats with the a/c on about 75% of the time,so its not bad.Xantia a bit heavyer i think.I dont hang around either as i leave at 5.30am,so the roads are empty.
I put some all in one cleaner in the tank the other week.Car still feels the same, but mpg is now 41.I keep an open mind but.....Still doing the same route, same driving(foot down, stop srart etc)

Thanks for all the replies folks, I'll try some cleaning stuff at the next fill up and see if it makes any difference

Suggest you try some Unicat4 additive, (www.unicat4.com) as it appears to have made my ZX livlier, and also increased my MPG from 43.5 to 46. This is only on the first tank full, and the livlier feeling may be psycological, but I will continue to log the consumption.
