DS3 2017 intermittent front wiper issue

Hi all, in trying to diagnose and repair my family members DS3 fault. She states that when raining 8/10, when you select any of the wiper settings (from intermittent to full speed) it works. The times it doesn't, what happens is when you select any of the levels, the wipers will for a bit then the will just won't do anything at all.

If you try to cycle through the wiper option nothing will happen at all.

If left for a day, it will start working again.

I've only had chance to check the 30a fuse under the bonnet which controls the wipers and the fuse is perfectly fine.

So my next thought is to swap out the wiper relay (if it has one) and see if it's that. If that doesn't fix it, other than replacing both wiper motors, I don't know what else would.

The issues is I have a really old clone rev b lexia 3 device, but version 9 of diagbox. It would be a shame if I couldn't use that as I would hope it would at least pull the fault codes at the very least. That way it could paint a picture as to weather any fault codes have been detected with them and from were.

Any ideas or suggestions? If you would test the relay, where would it be for the wipers?

I doubt an older device will read a DS3 correctly or be able to interrogate all the ECUs as it will likely be missing certain hardware components on the boards.

If you can, let us have the actual fault codes and the vehicle VIN for further help. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Thank you, yeah your right. I did some research and was wondering if I installed the missing chips needed it might at least read the car for fault codes. I would never want or expect the old VCI to do intricate work, it would only be used to, read trouble codes, reset them and or the service light.

The issue is, other than a lexia 3, there is no other device that can read error codes on the DS3? Or to the point of a specific area like the windscreen wipers?

It's not just the VCI, it's the software (like Diagbox) that needs to be for the correct model and year as the systems are constantly updated and the software needs to be able to keep up.

There are other code readers on the market, but there's a difference between a code reader and a more professional level diagnostic tool like a Lexia VCI that can do a lot more.
