Lost most radio stations?

Unread post by Moog »

Hi,

Sorry, really mundane question here.
Original radio/CD in 2001 Xsara Picasso.

Have lost most stations and just hear static or very poor reception. Radio 3 and 4 work just about but very crackly.

Aerial looks intact.

Is it likely to be the radio itself has finally bitten the dust? Or something else? How can I diagnose it?

Many thanks 👍

As you are still getting some reception, it is more likely to be the antenna. Some citroens of that period have an antenna amplifier fitted to the base of the antenna (above the headlining), and these can randomly fail. If you find that you have the amplifier can, you can bypass it and connect the antenna directly to the coax cable.

Aww thanks!! I'll give that a go. I'm selling the car soon, so need it working as the rest of the car is excellent condition.

Thanks for the advice 👍💪

Hi,

I've got this little stubby metal cylinder at the base of the aerial. This pic is from a video but it's like mine. Mine has white corrosion on it. How does it work? Would a cleanup (contact cleaner etc.) help?

I can't see these online anywhere.
