Another suspension problem with a new XM!

Unread post by GaryO »

I have just bought a low milage(68k miles)'92 XM with a full service history to replace my old XM which was always dropping it's back end on the floor. This also has a suspension problem.
The steering felt heavier than my old car, and the pressure regulator makes a loud clicking sound, very fast when it first starts, when you brake or go up hill for some reason, also the brake pedal has a slight buzzing feeling to it when it is pressed gently (this isn't the abs because it isn't fitted), the car also rises very quickly and it seems to me that it is a very hard ride compared to other XM's Iv'e owned or ridden in, although the hard ride might be my imagination.
My local independant Citroen garage has had the car for a week and said they had cured the problem, they replaced the hydraulic pump which has made the steering much lighter, but it is still clicking loud and fast, and the brake pedal feels exactly the same as it did before.
Has anyone any idea what could be wrong.

Check the pressure in the accumulator sphere as the first action when taking on a new cit...

I take it you have checked the 4 corners of the car by sitting on each wing in turn and making sure that you get the same soft bounce at each (i.e. no rock hard feeling as if the suspension was raised to maximum height). And for that matter that the car can assume the four separate fixed heights 1) service(bottom) 2) normal (half way between 1 and 4) 3) raised 4) wheel changing (maximum height).
The spheres are always the most frequent culprits for hard Cit's.
