to remember the Americans 'Over there' or 'over here' to us. This was just a mile or so from my home at the time.

I have it in my childhood memory of songs Gibbo, my Mother used to sing all sorts of old war songs when using the wash board and mangle in the back yard. That was one of her repertoire with White Cliffs, Siegfried Line, We'll Meet Again etc. It's a Long Way to Tipperary was one of her favourites too I remember :-D

Mersey Dotes and Dozy Dotes?

"How Are Things In Glocca Morra"

My mother used to sing around the house too, mainly in Welsh.
Hated the above two.

There's a photo of Mersey Docks where someone has altered the sign to spoof Mares Eat Oats...

And then there's this:_

My parents had two 'yanks' billeted with them during the 2nd world war. who returned home once peace was declared.
I was born after they left but well remember the 'food' parcels they both sent for years after to help eke out the meager things available to us due to rationing.
The food stuff was 'interesting' & the chocolate wolfed down but the sight of us raggy arsed kids wearing garish American silk shirts must have been something else. :-D

I'm very aware of the creators involved there. In fact my (very slight) knowledge is comics based from the 80s where a character in another DC comic about (I think) The Shadow would sing those few lines from the song as I wrote down above.

You all went for the music but did you see the other link? https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/i ... ey_WW2.jpg
That was the US base at the Pheasey Estate an estate that was just about completed before the war started and allocated as barracks for the GIs when the came.
At the end of the war it was left empty all but the guards, the local kids all got in and helped themselves to kit that was left behind, blankets boots cutlery and other uniform stuff, one lad came out with gross box of 'French letters' :)
My brother and myself were met with a sentry and his huge Alsation dog, he shouted "Don't run" but my brother did and the dog caught him and bit his ass.
