Aircon switched off following BSI reset

Unread post by justjohn51 »

The RT4 Head unit on my vehicle (Peugeot 407sw) has developed a fault which I am unable to cure with the RT4 Upgrade CD which the display is asking for. I performed a BSI reset in the vain hope that it might cure the problem with the Head unit which had been working perfectly well. It would appear that the BSI reset has resulted in the AirCon being in the off state. Obviously with no display I am unable to access the Menu in order to turn the AirCon to ON. I have no idea when I will be able to locate another RT4 Unit (apart from Poland at a cost of approx £500 with no real guarantee that it would actually work). My question is; Would it be possible to turn the AirCon back on using DiagBox or am I on a hiding to nothing? Thanks in anticipation.

You can only undertake activation tests with Diagbox (testing the functionality) which would revert back to the actual setting once you come out of the testing area.

You may have a display issue rather than a head unit issue of course.

You should just be able to turn the A/C on using the manual controls in any case, by switching the climate to AUTO. The same applies to the left / right temp. settings, except you won't be able to see the temperature values.

Thanks for your speedy reply. The Display seems absolutely fine. The first message to appear was.....ERROR/DATE & TIME incorrect. Following this the display simply changed to the MAGNETIMARELLI Static screen. After a while the display cleared and the message...PLEASE INSERT UPGRADE CD appeared. I managed to locate the latest version (8.31 I think) from a Peugeot main dealer. At first it just kept ejecting the cd but eventually it read...CHECKING CRC. Then a warning not to turn off the engine and that the Update would take between 30 - 40Minutes. After approx 2 minutes it displayed the message FLASHING FAILED and ejected the CD. This happened 4 or 5 times until finally the CD just stayed in and the same message asking to inset the Upgrade cd reappeard! I believe that somehow files have become corrupt on the HDD or possibly the EPROM itself. In any event I honestly think the Head unit is finished :(

RT4 units have a hard drive inside (no flash memory), so it's possible the HDD has failed and why it's asking for the boot Firmware CD.

Might be worth trying to replace the HDD with a PATA IDE drive (do not use a SATA HDD) and then allowing the firmware CD to create the partitions and copy the operating system over. Automotive grade HDDs are required because of the nature of use, but may be worth getting one to try and see if this works first.

Many thanks Marc. I do actually have another HDD from a previous RT4 which failed due to over heating as a result of the cooling fan becoming u/s. I will try swapping that one and see what happens then!
