Hello,
I have just bought a used Citroen C5X which has WiFi capabilities. I can see the cars network name on my phone but can't connect my phone/tablet to it as it asks for a password (which I haven't been provided)
Is there a default password for Citroen WiFi? I've looked in the manual/online and it isn't mentioned anywhere. I've also tried the the obvious ones such as the cars vin/registration as well as the usual 1234 etc
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
James

Re: Citroen WiFi
All this means is that if your car has WiFI option, it means you can share an internet data connection from your Smart Phone with the car's internal WiFi, so that the connection can be used more easily by passengers in the car on their phones as an access point, or Hotspot around the vehicle.
There are no official passwords - the password is generated by the vehicle / phone when making a connection. So you need to ensure you choose the correct profile that allows data from the phone when making the connection and also ensuring you have the appropriate permissions set beforehand.
To manage these settings go to 'Settings' then 'Connectivity'
From here, it's possible to manage:

- the Wi-Fi connection sharing.
- the privacy mode.

Thanks.
The only options I have within the connectivity menu for the WiFi is networks and privacy. It doesn't have anything about WiFi connection sharing (even within the two menus)

Re: Citroen WiFi
So I'll need your VIN to confirm if you do or don't have WiFI, this will save me time to be honest. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Hi, ok, so just as well I checked to save asking a load of irrelevant questions
Your vehicle does not have on-board WiFi, which will be the reason you can't find the option for this.

Oh ok, so is the WiFi there just to connect to other networks to conduct updates etc?
Thanks for checking

Re: Citroen WiFi
The connections menu will probably be there to manage wired smartphone and Bluetooth connections to your phone (s).

Re: Citroen WiFi
Hello,
My C5X Shine Plus 1.6 PHEV vehicle successfully connects to my home wifi with a very strong signal strength. However, when I try to download updated navigation maps, the TomTom navigation system says "connect to Wifi", even though it is connected. The only way I can get to download an update, is to set a Personal Hotspot on my iphone, then connect the car to the Personal Hotspot and download. This is tedious and uses up my data plan on my iphone contract. Does anybody have any ideas as to why the C5X is not using the connected home wifi? My home wifi is 1GB bandwidth so capacity should not be an issue. Many thanks, Rob

Re: Citroen WiFi
Why don't you connect your iPhone to the same home wifi that your car can see (turn mobile data off), then allow the car to connect to your iPhone's personal hotspot? That should use the home wifi and not your mobile data as long as you have your mobile data turned off temporarily.
As to the reasons - could be several, not least your router may not be accepting the direct request from the vehicle or the connections it is trying to make - hard to say without knowing the specific setup, but try this suggestion and see.

Re: Citroen WiFi
Hi Marc again.
Just tried your suggestion in my C5X. The car wants to connect to my iphone only using WiFi, which means I can't connect my iphone to my home wifi. In fact, as soon as I turn mobile data off on my iphone, the phone turns off the personal hotspot. It was a nice try though, so thank you for the suggestion.
