Gunson diagnosics tool

Unread post by gradeafailure »

So, I was in Halfords the other day and saw those Gunson diagnotics testers and thought, hmmmm...
Anyone had any experience of them, are they a worthwhile purchase, and what level of faults will they tell you about?
Cheers guys!

I have one which I used when the engine management lamp started comming on. I does work. It diagnosed a turbo pressure fault on mine so I replaced the turbo control valve and that fixed it.
Some people have made a tester themselves. It's said to be very easy as there are only a few components in it.

If it for the 91/92 ZX then it should work (as long as they are petrol) as the ECU produces 'flash codes', basically electric pulses which illuminate an LED. Thats all the Gunson code reader really is, an LED in a box!

I made one for 10p, unfortunately it doesn't work on my model. On some cars you can make the dash light flash the codes so you don't even need an LED.
