Clutch and flywheel

Unread post by Heath65 »

Hi wondering if anyone can help with clutch questions, I’m off the road and need to get back to work asap.
The thrust bearing went in my 2015 relay 2.2 130hp van, I ordered new clutch, pressure plate and duel mass flywheel off eBay, checking that they fitted my van, local parts place could get any? So have taken gearbox out only to discover that the flywheel is a solid one, which makes sense as it used to clunk into gear before, but after putting the new clutch an pressure plate onto the dm flywheel it seem they don’t fit together at all, the gap between the plate and dmf is huge like 18-20mm I’m lead to believe and understand that there needs to be one but my understanding is 3-5mm? The depth for the clutch of the solid is 24mm on the dmf is 12mm, I can off course use the old solid flywheel as it in great condition, and just use the new clutch and pressure plate, as they are the same as the old, but I’d like to use the dmf to avoid the clunking clutch and destroying the gearbox.
So my question is what one is wrong? Pressure plate or flywheel? And what one do I need?
Thank you for any help!!!!

Clutch / DMF Def looks wrong, but I would also expect the pressure plate to touch the SM flywheel, although that may pull up when bolted down. What does the friction plate look like? One for a SM should have springs in it.

Hi Richard,
Yh my thoughts too, somethings off.
Yh on the sm it would pull down pretty easy I think but even if I got the dm to pull down I recon it would be so tight it would never release.
It does have springs so my thinking that’s a sm clutch?

Coil springs in the plate = clutch for single mass. On a Dual mass set up the friction plate is solid, as the flywheel takes up the shock when taking up the drive.

Thank you, ends up going for the flywheel I had and for the clutch and pressure plate I bought, now got to try and return the dmf which set me back £275
