C5 X7 front brake flexi hose to steel hose

Unread post by aerodynamica »

Hi all, lately with the C5 I have suffered a seized front caliper. I forked out for a new one and I went for a new brake flexi hose too. All looked promising until I looked at the pipe connection from the flexi hose to the steel pipe union. There is so much corrosion that it is not possible to remove this flexi without destroying the metal pipe union. I think I am also going to have to source a new steel pipe or make one with a flare tool.

Questions: can the steel brake pipes still be bought from dealer or other?

Or, if I am forming a new pipe flare does anyone know the type the X7 uses? I'm used to LHM Citroens and I have the LHM hydraulics pipe forming kit and would only have to find the correct die and punch to use in the pipe former for 'normal' brake pipes. Just need to know the specs.

I managed to change the caliper ok but not the flexi pipe.

I had a new set of 'hoses' made for my C8 rear caliper. Let the garage do it if it's a good garage. It's one of those cheaper to pay than diy imo.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Thanks, I'm assuming it's ISO bubble flare and I'd need the die to form it. It might be standard from any car related shop. I might end up booking it in but need to find a trustworthy garage.

Hi Graeme

All except (12) & (13) are still available, which I suspect are the parts you need. :(

Hi Marc, you are most correct! those are indeed the parts needed. Is there any way to find any dimensions of these pipes such as the correct pipe gauge and what flare it should have at each end? I wonder if the Peugeot 407 has similar parts.

Thanks Marc, that's great. Quite a cost disparity between the front-to-rear pipes and the little spring clip : )

Thanks anyway, I might end up having to make this pipe if I can get the end specs.

Sorry, I forgot the part of your question Graeme, there's no detail shown of the actual sizes or diameters of the pipes unfortunately.

That's ok, I'll physically measure the outer diameter of the pipe. I half expect it to be some standard size. The end flare too but need to confirm it and also the right end union nuts. It may also have a different fitting at each end. If I didn't need to have the car on the road I'd simply remove the pipe to look at the ends.
