Citroen Will Drop Small And Large Cars Focus Profitability

Unread post by Sloppysod »

Have we heard this before?
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new- ... fitability

I know my memory is absolutely rubbish but.......

Back in the late 1990's didn't Citroen say that the XM was the last large Citroen when they launched the Xantia?
Yes it makes sense, but doesn't the length of the car help with aerodynamics & efficiency?

Until the market is swamped with lookilikies and then they'll need to do something to distinguish themselves again. I think we've accepted that they'll no longer be another C6 or other large cruiser, but SUVs are still one of the most popular formats.

It will be about market "segments".... sticking bits of plastic and a few chromed badges on basically the same fridge...oops, sorry, car shell is cheep, duplicating products/marketing etc is not......Remember what happened to British Leyland (if you are old enough).

Nobody buys a "Citroen" and have not done so for long time.....all people buy is a badge stuck on a PSA/SteliWhatsIt shell with a few changed "visual bits"..

That E-CV3 could be any SUV with only a badge to differentiate it from all the others... As Sticky says, yet another bland fridge on wheels...

And bloody fugly...

My next car will be a van.

Citroen have a new CEO.....Citroen will concentrate on... not a lot.

"Citroën CEO Thierry Koskas said in a recent interview with Autocar that the brand will move away from the midsize segment, focusing on subcompact and compact models instead. The announced direction is yet another indication that Citroën is perceived with little cache within Stellantis"

It's unfortunate that the brand is going to be eaten up and will no doubt be 'absorbed' into the group and disappear into the sea of commonality.

Vauxhall is going the same way....

Simple, buy a "badge" popular/has history in a country, stick a few badges/change a few stick on bits onto your "common platform", market that in that country....it is the same production cost as offering any "option" when you look at the manufacturing plant.....just add a a few extra telephone lines into the "common call center" and label that as the Head Office of your brand.

Yes, they're are also part of the 14 current Stellantis brands (Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall).

My own C3 Aircross is basically a Vauxhall Grandland X and built in Spain at the same factory sharing many of the same parts.

At least it doesn't have a silly "Grandland" badge on it.

:) Indeed. They've just launched a new version in 7 seater format option too, though unless you're a family of pipe cleaners, I can't really see that being very comfortable...

 Love it, that made me giggle Marc!!

It's one thing I love about my Picasso... Apart from being an absolutely superbly functional and practical vehicle, it's quirky and individual, both within and without... There's nothing else remotely like it on the road and it is instantly recognisable and distinctive...

It may win no automotive beauty contests but it sure catches the eye in a sea of lookalike clone 'white-goods' vehicles...

I've always liked the look of the C3 Picasso, so when its replacement came out, we got the Aircross as it ticked all the boxes.
