C4 2023 JUST RESET ITSELF ON INFOTAINMENT WHILST DRIVING

Unread post by C4OAR »

Evening, not sure if I could do a better subject...

I was driving yesterday, had done about 20 miles, my wife plugged in her Galaxy phone to charge, and as soon as she put it in... the console and dash just turned off. I thought the car had turned itself off. The service light then came on, console and dash then came on with a 'search for your nearest garage'. This took maybe 45-60 seconds. I pulled over safely, turned the car off and on again normally... no service light.

It was rather bizarre. Has this happened to anyone before? Or, any ideas on what may have caused it?

I can only suggest from experience that because the USB port is directly linked to the Head Unit, it's most likely a faulty or very poor quality cable. It's well-known that cheaper non-certified cables can cause voltage spikes, overheating and worse. The electronics inside can be of varying quality and some offer little or no over-voltage protection and can even short out equipment.

I strongly suggest you get a certified original cable or it may do some damage to the system - so don't use that cable again.

I just experienced the same thing today. While I stopped for the read light, the infotainment suddenly went black and restarted itself.
Actually I had two other similar experiences in the recent 4 months. One was just after I started the engine and the other was during driving.

Someone said I should start the system first, by pressing the start button without holding the brake. After the system is ready then start the engine. Not sure if that helps?

There have been specific issues with these first generation IVI systems, including a failed firmware update that was released, leaving the infotainment system crashing , restarting and most of the features and function unavailable. They were supposed to have released a corrective version, but sounds like there are still some bugs to be worked out, which hopefully they will address in future firmware releases.

Meanwhile, if you are sure the cable is ok, then do get back to the dealer and have the issues recorded, as they really need to know. describe the symptoms and conditions when these restarts are occurring. The more data the collect, the quicker they can feed it back to France and get fixes released. For most of you this is warranty work.

Is the USB socket on this system rated to give enough power to charge phones? I know that the USB sockets on the Magneti Marelli systems (RT6 and SMEG+) in our C5 and 308 are not and are just for connecting USB drives to.

The above vehicles have separate USBs for each - ones for smartphone connectivity (which will also charge) and others for charging only, like USB C. It should be marked on the dash and in the manual which is which.

So it's possible to use the wrong USB port I suppose? Could C4OAR (and chenkl) confirm which USB socket they were using to charge their phones?

Apologies for my delay, I needed a reset myself :)

I can confirm I was using the USB charging point that is on the right hand side of the console with the charge symbol.

So right is Power Supply & Charging only.
Left is the same, but with exchange of multimedia with the Head unit.

There was nothing plugged into any USB port when my infotainment rebooted itself. Not operating on the screen either.

I did receive OTA update notice. However, due to my bad experience on my first and the only update, which messed up my car, I would prefer to wait until my next maintenance and do the update at the dealer. Until then I can live up with the restart every one or two months.

I have had the same experience with a new Citroen C4 2024. See my post viewtopic.php?p=823664#p823664
I will reply with updates once I go to the dealer to have a look at it.
