C5 X7 with HiFi System - Error CD2D - How to proceed?

Unread post by JustADriver »

Hi Guys!

First of all thanks for the help!

Before I describe my problem, I got a C5 X7 (2011) with the Philips Hifi System and currently no sound.

Through the recent months my soundsystem randomly stopped working. It started in the beginning of the year then the intervall between not working got shorter until it fully stopeed. So I obtained a Lexia 3 full chip and used Diagbox 7.57 to run a check and I go the following result regarding the sound issue:

audio amplifier - AMPLI_AUDIO
CD2D - Fault on the front RH Woofer
From - Local
Characterisation of the fault - Open Circuit

As far as I understand, the problem is related to the speaker at the right front door. My question now is, where or how to I find out what exactly is the issue? Where do I start?

Im not an expert on cars, but I have the confidence to perform the checks myself, it just will be slow as hell :D. I would like to know (from your experience) where to start, because frankly, I dont want to just blindly take everything apart and randomly search or test, but use some kind of "first to last" or similar guidance to find the issue. Like Cable, connections, speaker? You know what I mean. I hope its not too much to ask.

If I forgot to mention some necessary information, please let me know. Also out of curiosity, is it normal that the whole soundsystem shuts down when one speaker or something related to it has an issue? Is it possible to deactivate this speaker temporarily until the issue has been fixed?

Thanks!

Here you go.

You have an OPEN circuit, meaning there's a break somewhere in the circuit. As this is in the front right woofer, the most likely culprit is the wiring between the front door aperture, where the wires from the A Pillar enter the door. This is a weak point due to the opening and closing of the door, which over time weakens the wires until one breaks.

I suggest you remove the protective shroud that covers the wires in the door aperture and inspect these closely for breaks. If not the break may be further up or down the circuit, or refer to the other suspect areas in the table below:
Fault Code: CD2D
Description of Fault: Fault in the front right woofer: Open circuit. Detection of a resistance higher than 130 Ohms (On starting the system).
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Detection of a resistance lower than 70 Ohms (On starting the system)
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • No sound
Suspect Areas:
  • Audio amplifier ECU
  • Electrical harness
  • Woofer

Hi Marc,

thank you for quick response and Info! I will try it out this weekend. One more thing, is there anything special I have to pay attention to?
Do you maybe have a little visualisation of that part or similar? Or is it pretty straight forward?

Thanks
Rob

At the end of the day it's most likely a break in a wire somewhere, so just needs tracing. Start where I suggested and then the speaker itself to make sure the wire has not come away. Getting to the front speaker is a pain because the front door panel needs to come off and this means removing the very fragile and delicate trim on the door grabs and other trim to get to the screws to release the door card (after unplugging the door sill light and electric window pad etc.) All this to get to the speaker to check the connection, so I hope that if it is a break in this area, that it's in the door aperture!
