C5 x7 window goes down before up

Post by Agour »

I just put a new window mechanism in my x7.

Reset the anti pinch. But, the window only goes up after it has gone down.

If i open the window a small amount and then try to close it, it will open to halfway. Try again at halfway and it opens fully.

When it's open fully I can close it like normal.

I assume it's something to do with the anti pinch?

I tried loosing the screws a touvh holding the mechanism etc together, but no luck

Window goes up slower than normal too..

Any ideas?

Make sure you edge the window up manually using the first position on the switch - don't use one touch open or close. When it gets to the top again hold at the first switch position until you feel or hear the slight click.

Just gave that a go and unfortunately it didn't work..

I don't know if its related, but when i open the window with one touch it opens to 95%. There's like 1cm sticking out of the seals.

I can then press it again to get the final 1cm hidden. Passenger window does not do this..

Try some red rubber grease/silicone grease on the rubber runners.
Now WD4O or similar as that will degrade the rubber.

Thoroughly clean the runners first though.

I had this with mine after a battery change.

Disconnect the battery, wait for 10 mins, reconnect following the battery reset process (just to make sure).

Get in the car, ignition key to stage one (no start)
Single (machine gun) presses till it gets to the top and then hold the button down (eg depressed for up) for 10 secs, then all the way down, hold down for 10 secs, repeat 2-3 times.

If you're going to do a battery disconnection, follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Thank you! This fixed it :)

I used the wd40 silicone spray.

Put some along the window seal on outside edge.

Pulled the window back into the car slightly and squirted some in the gap between window and seal.

Then put some on the plastic runner that holds the glass to the metal tracks.

And then put a bit on the tracks themselves, along the edge that the runner runs. (I put more on the side you can't see). This would have been easier if I put it on before fitting the regulator inside the door :)

Didn't need a lot, but the window moves smoothly now. Ironically it goes up faster than the passenger side now, so i might need to do all the other windows too!
