DS5 Hybrid 4: Degraded/limp capped at 2500 rpm (?)

Hi,

So, I got myself a diagnostic tool (the Otofix D1 Pro, not Diagbox because I could not determine a reliable source to get one) to try to see more information about my car because the previous one I used was not able to see more information about the car.

While looking at the RPM live data (several of them), I reved the car and floored the gaz pedal to the ground. To my surprise, it only went to 2500 RPM.
I previously had a Peugeot 307 2.0L HDI, and I know for a fact that there is something wrong in the car when it caps itself to 2500 RPM.

So, the obvious first question: is deliberately capped to 2500 RPM when it's just stationary (gear on N, and parking break is on)? I seem to have seen other DS5 cars on YouTube who would rev to maximum RPM even at stationary.

Obviously, I had found faults in the BSI section (the module I believe is BSI2010), which are as follow:
- B1601 15 Central power switch positive (+CPC) relay control fault -- Circuit open or short to positive -- Present
- B1602 14 Fault in main relay status -- Open circuit or short circuit to ground -- Present
- B1818 1C Oil level fault -- Signal-Out of range -- Present
- B1811 96 Fault in diesel fuel additive pump -- Intermittent
- U1F41 87 No communication with the supplies protection and management unit -- Present

I also have the following in the Engine wiring housing (BSM_2010):
- B1137 15 Fault Right low beam -- Circuit open or short to positive -- Intermittent
- B1138 15 Fault Output of left low beam headlamp -- Circuit open or short to positive -- Intermittent
- B1801 64 Internal fault in engine fuse box ECU -- Intermittent
- U1F00 00 No recording in the error information -- Permanent

Does any of those cause the car to go in degraded/limp mode and capped at 2500 RPM? And where exactly in the car should I go look to fix these?

Yes the engine ECU limits the engine speed when the vehicle is stationary to prevent damage to the engine.

You have your fault codes and from those you have a supplies / electrical issue, so need to look at the BGPA (supplies protection / management unit and the the engine fuse bot to start with, as if any of these are faulty, they will no doubt cause issues with other equipment.

Thanks Marc ... where are these components located in the car please?

And, how do I know if it's not capped during actual driving?

These are the ones I have. Looks like the engine fusebox / supplies protection unit should be looked at first.

Fault Code: B1601 15
Description of Fault: Central power switch positive (+CPC) relay control fault: Open circuit or short circuit to the plus. The control is active even though the control copy is inactive. The control line of the central power switch positive (+CPC) relay is considered active when its voltage is lower than 2,7 V
Fault confirmation time: 1 seconds.

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: The following conditions have to be met:
- BSI triggered
- LIN networks re-awakened
Conditions for Fault to clear: Control copy active
Time of disappearance of the fault: 1 s
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: None, but this may trigger the "SERVICE" warning lamp Warning message and / or an audible warning.
Symptoms: No supply of electrical components.
Suspect Areas:
  • Connectors
  • Electrical harness
  • Built-in systems interface
  • Supplies protection and management unit

Fault Code: B1602 14
Description of Fault: Main relay status fault: Short circuit to earth or open circuit. The electrical status (BSI software status) is at "contact" whereas the main relay status repeat is inactive.
The status line of the main relay is considered active when its voltage is higher than the battery voltage minus 2,7 V.
Fault confirmation time: 1 s
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Main relay active
  • Time of disappearance of the fault: 1s
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: "SERVICE" warning lamp, Warning message, Audible warning.
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
Symptoms:
  • Cutting of the supply more rapid than anticipated, after switching off the ignition
Suspect Areas:
  • Fuses
  • Connectors
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Engine fusebox
  • Supplies protection and management unit

Fault Code: B1818 1C
Description of Fault: Oil level fault.

The following conditions have to be met:
- Oil level measurement correctly performed
- Measured voltage lower than 40 mV or higher than 675 mV

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- Ignition on
- Engine not running
- After the built-in systems interface has switched to dormant mode
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • The following conditions have to be met:
    - Oil level measurement correctly performed
    - Measured voltage between 40 and 675 mV
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: Message "check engine oil level" on the multifunction screen
  • Message "OIL --" flashing displayed for 7 seconds
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
Symptoms:
  • Message "check engine oil level" on the multifunction screen
  • Message "OIL --" flashing displayed for 7 seconds
Suspect Areas:
  • Configuration of the

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Multiple customer complaints
Suspect Areas:
  • Supplies protection and management unit
  • Supply of the supply protection and management control unit
  • LIN

Fault Code: B1137 15
Description of Fault: Right dipped beam fault: Short circuit to positive or open circuit.
Lamps controlled
Open circuit or short circuit to positive detected for 2 seconds

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- Ignition on
- Apart from in economy mode
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Absence of malfunctioning and activation/deactivation of the control
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
Symptoms:
  • Unwanted activation of the lamp (without control)
  • The lamp cannot be activated
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness

- Apart from in economy mode
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Absence of malfunctioning and activation/deactivation of the control
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
Symptoms:
  • Unwanted activation of the lamp (without control)
  • The lamp cannot be activated
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness
  • Engine fusebox

Fault Code: B1801 64
Description of Fault: Engine fuse box ECU internal fault.

Lack of coherence of the internal data of the engine fusebox

  • Consistency of the data internal to the engine fusebox

The headlamp issues will most likely be related to the faulty engine fuse box, so I would focus there first, as the Supplies protection and management unit is designed to cut power in the event of an accident, but if the engine fusebox is faulty internally, replacing that may be the first place to start, clear the faults and take it from there to see which ones return.

There has been a replacement part for the engine fusebox which I've detailed below so you have the correct part number:

I have looked under the hood and have noticed some unused fuse slots, which I think is suspect. I have bought the car, however, the importer has replaced the BSI, probably done some other things but I was not been made aware of the modifications that has done on it, only that the BSI has been replaced because lights, horns, etc... didn't work with the preivous BSI (now they do).

The photos of the unused fuse slots are attached.

This one is in the fuse box:

And this one is just on top of the battery (inside engine). This one appears to have an unconnected wire with, and there is no fuse on it.

Marc, can you tell me if they need to be populated with fuses, and at which rate?

No

It's common for spare slots and unconnected terminals. These are shared across the range and will depend on engine, transmission, and factory options as to whether they are populated or not. None of the above images are the BSI.

The BSI is inside the vehicle on the left hand side tucked away and is the main vehicle computer. What you have in the first image is the engine fusebox and below that the Protection and supplies management unit.

On the protection unit in your second picture, the markings indicate the Fuse Number on the metal. List those markings from left to right (starting with the green 40, Orange 60 etc) all the way across and down to the ones indicated by your arrows, so I can see what they are for. I will look at what I have to see what they indicate.
