can somebody tell me what this “grill” is for?

It looks like some kind of air sensor…?

And what is that small black dot on light, just beside middle switch?

The grille most likely houses the microphone for the handsfree phone kit (if fitted).

In my 3008 that dot on the light lights up when the headlights are on to provide ambient lighting in the car.
