Indicator tick, Amplify??

Unread post by James.UK »

My ZX indicator tick is not loud enough, its fine when the car is ticking over at lights, but at 70 on the motorway its indiscernable. [:(!] is there any way I can make it louder?

You can amplify the sound by putting the indicator relay inside a small box or tin can and then rest it against the side of the box.[:D]

Or ask in a motorbike shop for one of the infuriating beepers we all remove as soon as we get the bike home!

Early Dyanes had a 'clacker' in the indicator switch - a small solenoid with a plunger that hit the switch case

Sorry, but this is a pet hate of mine. Doesn't the lashing green light on the dash tell you your indicators are on? Sorry but high volume of over 70's around here all in metro's. Most drive around all day with the indicators going. Also most will indicate past an average of at least 6 turning points befor commiting to the manuverour (spelling), around 20 to 40 yards or so. Sorry for the rant there. I know that you can get a loud buzzer for towing. Maplins should help.

Hmm, So where do I find the thing that makes the noise, (quiet noise lol)and what does it look like? sticking it in a lil box or tin sounds ok.. [^]
Stuart its because I dont want to leave it on that I am trying to cure the problem..
The green light is at the foot of my dash in the centre, and cant be seen unless I actually look down at it.. On top of that its not easy to see in bright sunshine as its not very bright at the best of times, and altering the dimmer switch does not effect it.. [:0]

James
Turn your indicators on and locate by ear?
Stuart
I think James is trying to avoid this very situation when he becomes 70 and gets his Metro, which will rot away before he is 72.
Around here, the problem is that people give a signal after they have started the manoeuvre, and then leave it on for the next half mile. Not done an age analysis yet [;)]
Many also indicate right when they are leaving a roundabout - somewhat confusing. Many of these problems are caused by that dreadful invention - self-cancel [:(]

Don't start me about self-cancel. Once had a BMW which would turn on and off at will.

Do you mean you have another clicking noise?
If you put your hand on every relay you can find, you will feel the vibrations([:)][:)][:)])asumming the indicators are on left or right, right[?][?]

Two Irishmen doing a pre-MOT check:
Pat: Can you tell me if the left hand indicator is working?
Mick: It's working; it's not; It's working; it's not; It's working; it's not; It's working; it's not; It's working; it's not; It's working; it's not; It's working; it's not [:D][:D]
I can get away with that one with a name like mine!

How about fitting one of those nice loud tweeters that you use when you fit tow bar electrics? Not sure where it would go though.....just a thought.[:D][8D]

As an antidote to the geriatric over indicators you could try a few drives in the country. It appears to be mandatory that the driver of anything remotely agricultural must never under any circumstances indicate, in fact a large percentage appear to have no lights fitted.
