AX MK1 Rear dust caps

I've just done the rear brake shoes on my girlfriends AX MK1, and had to pretty much destroy one of the dust caps to get it off. I have one on order, but I was just wondering if it is safe to drive the car without it or not?

From a safety point of view, I shouldn't worry about it, providing the nut is staked. Long term, I suppose dust could gather on the grease.

OK cool, I was just worried the cap might be load bearing or something!
