I have a Picasso C3 2011 1.6 VTR.
When I engage reverse and the car moves. There is a creaking sound that appears to eminate from the rear of the car. I had it in the garage and they fitted a new ball joint on the drivers side. But the noise is still there when reversing. They say they cannot find anything wrong other than that joint. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Creaking sound when reversing.
This could be anything - brakes needing cleaning, suspension, exhaust, etc. Could the garage hear the noise when they tested it ?

Yes as pull said, most lightly a sticking caliper, when you reverse VERY SLOWLY, does the back of the car rise up and stay up, if so a or both calipers are sticking?
Not sure of the wheels you have, but can you touch the rear discs, if so after a long drive, few miles continuously, are the discs hot, do they smell hot?

Re: Creaking sound when reversing.
Of course your car has a power steering unit - not sure why you were told that... it's just that yours has an electric power steering system, that is mounted on the steering rack itself.
It's a complete sealed unit and wouldn't have anything to do with creaking in reverse as all it is doing is turning the wheels, whether you are going forward or backwards.
It may be just noise from the calipers / brakes when in reverse - especially if the pads or discs are wearing thin or there is corrosion in those areas, which gets disturbed when going in reverse.
Also you need to be aware that the rear wheel hubs are incorporated into the rear discs, so when you replace the rear discs you are replacing the hub with the bearings at the same time. So if your rear discs are badly corroded or have large grooves, this can be causing the creaking in reverse.
