As per title, C4 had ABS issue with PERMANENT fault x2 pertaining to ABS Module & all manner of worries. Wouldn't erase... So I disconnected the battery and waited a few minutes.
Upon reconnecting, I code read again and this time got a more sensible reading. Rear right sensor short to earth. I ordered a new one and when I stripped it down to change, was surprised (but not shocked) to see the sensor was touching the hub & worn down. Rust build up on the sensor mounting area had built to a point where it was pushing the sensor round & out. I used the needle gun to break up the rust & the wire brush cup on the grinder to get rid of the bits. I painted some grease on the backing, then mounted the new sensor. As an aside, I plugged in the new sensor before installing to rule out any other issues. It knocked out the warning lamps....
I told my wife to order a rear left sensor as it can't be far behind.
I thought I should bring it to your attention that older cars get rusty and the ABS module permanent scare is highly likely just the system putting itself in safe mode.
I read & erased the codes using my Autel MaxiPro 808TS which is pretty clever bit of kit & I highly recommend it. Works perfectly with the Citroen (and a whole raft of other marques).
