About two weeks ago my antifreeze was leaking from a faulty EGR valve. I got the valve replaced in local garage and upon collecting my vehicle the mechanic told me that I have an issue with radiator bacuse the input and output pipes were both hot but the radiator itself was cold.
I already bought a new antifreeze radiator and fan assembly (I've noticed that both fans were very loose on bearings) and I'm awaiting for this to get done. Since I was told about this I am keeping a close eye on the temperatures via Bluetooth osb2 scanner and the temperatures are ranging between 93-101°C. They usually sit between 98-100 and sometimes climb up to 103 but soon after that the temperature drops to around 93 and sometimes goes down to 83. The highest I noticed was 105 but it was only once.
My question is what should be the correct engine coolant temperature range for this van? I had a look online and while some sources claim that anything over 90 may cause problems other sources say that 75-105 is all good.
I try to use common sense here and I think that if the temperatures sit in the same range that is quite far below the 130°C coolant boiling point and that they drop soon after rinsing to over 100 it means that the radiator is working and the thermostat is doing it's job. This is only me trying to put some common sense to this but I'm not a mechanic and I would appreciate any good advice from anyone here before I would fork out about £800 to get this done.
