Re: I found this worth
I bought a Rover SD1 2300 SE when I was commuting between Watford and Grangemouth and it had the comfort and the smoothness I needed. Having traded in my beloved Lancia Martini HF Turbo because I needed a quieter ride I was very pleased with the car from day one. Unfortunately on the way home one Friday the motor expired just before J23 on the M1. I contacted a company near Heathrow who used to offer 24 hour engine transplants and they did not have an engine in stock. However they did have a 2600 engine so I had the car taken from J23 down to them by Britannia Rescue and arranged for my mate to run me over there on Sunday morning to collect it. We arrived as they were topping off the fluids at about 11.30 and by 12.30 I was driving it home, in time for a quick dinner before heading back up north.
After that I ran the car for another year before trading it in for the Renault Espace TXE. The one other thing I liked was that we could put the back seats down and the kids could sleep all the way down to my sister's in Ilfracombe which I used to do overnight to avoid the traffic.

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I sold a 2600 to one of my regular customers, had to take it back shortly after because every time they went out in it his wife was travel sick, they bought a Renault Trafic converted camper I had instead, the next buyer of the Rover kept it for several years but I think the rust got it in the end.

I think the American guy weighed up the UK car industry at the time perfectly.Gibbo2286 wrote: ↑24 Feb 2024, 11:08 I sold a 2600 to one of my regular customers, had to take it back shortly after because every time they went out in it his wife was travel sick, they bought a Renault Trafic converted camper I had instead, the next buyer of the Rover kept it for several years but I think the rust got it in the end.

No doubt about that, he was spot on. I'm assuming the lady who got sick was suffereing from the smooth ride combined with the almost universal aroma of the velour!!
