C4 GP headlights- from halogens to LED

Unread post by Cibbler »

Hello,
my question is i changed all the bulbs from halogen to led on the front lights - front parking lights, low beam and high beam.
After replacing them, it was clear to me that the canbus system of the led bulbs (with a built-in canbus box error free and rear fan) for low and high beams will not work for me, because I have tried many led bulbs on my car Citroen C4 GP 2007 always it catches the computer and gives an error/faulty when I turn on the ignition. :(

In my other cars Ford C-Max 2016 and Citroen C4 2007, I don't have such problems with LED bulbs. I've also used several types of decoders and resistors for the light bulbs, the error is always there, it doesn't fix itself. :(

My question is, isn't there some trick or other way or setting through Lexia to hide or turn off this annoying burnt out bulb error?

These are not intended for these older cars - expect problems, but it's not legal to do this in European countries in any case. Best I can suggest is you put the original bulbs back in or get a newer car with LEDS.

Doing this is not legal in the UK any more and will be picked up on the MOT.

The lightbox/reflector is not designed for that type of bulb and all that it results in is a very poorly directed light which will just dazzle oncoming cars (dangerous) or annoy the hell out of cars driving in front of you (dangerous).

I think there are only one or two bulbs properly designed for this, they are very expensive, also not legal and they would not be passed on MOT either.

It may be very difficult/impossible to just swap in a new headlight unit too as the connections and voltage requirements will be different, not to mention car programming.

In any case, sticking with the traditional bulbs is nice and cheap in the long run if it comes to replacement or damage.

Your best option if you want brighter light is to buy one of the nightbreaker type bulbs which are brighter, but just don't last as long.

If you are doing this just to make the car look cooler....well, I hate to break it to you, you bough a C4 GP.....there is nothing you can do. Trust me, I own one too.

He's in Bulgaria - so they don't have our MOT system over there and probably get away with a lot more than over here.

Hello, thank you for your answers.
I am extremely clear about this type of bulbs and their use.

For this purpose, a service adjustment was made and they are sold with a certificate of use and quality. They do not dazzle an oncoming vehicle or driving behind another vehicle. Bulbs make an absolute copy of the light beam from halogens.
Here we have annual technical reviews that include level and illuminance meters.

So far there are no unobserved problems, I was just looking for answers about follow-up errors on the dashboard and computer.

That's it, thanks.

It does not apply in European countries. Halogen headlamps are not designed nor approved for LED bulbs - end off and will not be approved for road use, so can't be legal. You may have different rules over there, but the reflectors, beam pattern etc. are not designed for halogen headlamps, and we can't advise with any issues because you are fitting non approved parts.

As far as the sales companies are concerned they don't care - they will sell you anything - it's not their problem once they've got your money.

If you notice modern cars with factory fitted LED headlamps, they are much smaller and have a lower profile to ensure the beam is directed properly and not like a lighthouse, which is what you will get with a halogen lamp as the optics and reflective pattern are designed for incandescent bulbs and will be far too bright for oncoming drivers.
