C4 service intervals

Next question concerning me recent change from C3 Aircross to C4 C series.
I always have my servicing done with a Citroen dealer, for which I pay into a service contract. This contract is provided through a company called EMAC. I’m sure this is a well know company for many Citroen owners. After 3 years of annual servicing, I had to renew my contract, which I did in October 2023. I’ve not needed a service yet under the current contract. When I changed cars last week to the C4, I rang EMAC to transfer the current service contract. This was done without issue, except that they told me that the service intervals for the C4, with annual mileage of 9000 miles, was 2 years. I’ve very sceptical about this, and worried that my remaining warranty on the car will be invalidated if I only get it serviced every 2 years. I understand from the selling dealer, that the car has just had a service. It was first registered in August 2023, and has 2700 miles on the clock. EMAC have sent me details of the new service contract, showing dates of August 2025 and August 2027. Also, im told that cars no longer come with a service record book, so I have no way of knowing if and when a service has been carried out. Apparently any servicing agent can access this information on line. But can I?
I’m not sure if I should be ringing EMAC and questioning their service interval recommendations. Any advice will be gratefully received.

Have a look through the car paperwork, for our last 2 cars they came with a single sheet of paper with the car VIN on and with the service intervals listed and the oil spec needed. They do not detail the systemic operations but that is usually the oil/filter change and checks. This sheet can also be obtained from any Citroen dealer against the VIN and I suspect you will be able to get the info here if you post your VIN. We still have books for the service and paint warranty stamps but I keep receipts which are more proof of work done than the stamps.

If your last car was a diesel then depending on the engine, they tend to have annual services for an oil change but the petrol ones every 2 years depending on miles done.

I didn’t get any of the paperwork that you mentioned, maybe because it’s a used vehicle?
Where about should I post the VIN to get the information?

All recent vehicles, (regardless of Diesel or Petrol) are annual servicing! Don't get caught out here relying on what was the case for older vehicles. It has all changed over the last 5 years or so.

Your warranty company has been incorrectly advised or not kept up with the servicing recommendations by the manufacturer.

For new C4 / C4X I can tell you it will be annual servicing or the set mileage - whichever comes first. If you fail to have it serviced at the recommended intervals, they can decline any warranty work, so I would ignore opinions on this and what your maintenance company says and stick to what the official recommendations are.

Further, as you have a new 1.2 C4, this will still have the wet timing belt and therefore must be checked at routine servicing (annually as a minimum) for signs of deterioration that can ultimately lead to catastrophic engine failure if it ever broke up undetected. It must be changed at 62.5k miles for the first change, regardless, so that's reason alone for ensuring you have authentic proper servicing.

That’s great thanks. I’ll get on to EMAC. Is there any way that I can check whether a service has recently been carried out, as the sales person told me?

Only by:
a) checking your service book which you should have (if not Citroen can supply one for you)
b) asking Citroen service staff if they would kindly provide you with a spare (if you didn't receive one when purchased) and ask them if they will record the service details from their database, as I'm not sure they will be able to provide copies of servicing invoices as they will have previous owner's personal details on (but then if it's this new, it may be a dealer-owned demonstrator, so shouldn't be an issue. So they may manually record the service dates and mileage for you for record purposes if the original dealership.

Hi, all sorted now thanks. EMAC didn’t know why I had been quoted 2 yearly intervals, so have now changed it to yearly. And the dealer has emailed me a copy of the service performed earlier this month.
