Help with a replacement remote for Citroen C1 2018

Unread post by Lecit »

Hello,

I wanted to know if I can get the following item and program it only to act as the remote control to lock/unlock the car (key not needed): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004054122897.html

Then, follow these steps to make it work:

I lost the original key fob and getting a new one is too expensive right now. I already copied a regular key to have as a spare, but I also want a remote to unlock/lock the car without key.

Will the item in the link work? And will the instructions in the video really work and program the remote?

Thanks!

Yes that is the correct programming procedure for the remote. The remote is programmed independently of the transponder chip on these.
It should be the correct remote & at that price deffo worth a try.
Its only an extra £1 for the chip to go with it so you would be as well getting a chip that could be programmed at a later date. For this car you need an H chip.

Thank you!!

And this procedure does not also reset the immobilizer? So that my other keys are safe?

I noticed they also do a cutting service. I'm thinking to take the chip from the key I copied and put it there.

Do you think a cutting service by providing an image like they do is accurate?

And lastly - when I looked up a genuine key, the blade was TOY48. but this key comes with VA2. Are they compatible? What's the difference?

The remote & immobiliser are completely separate on the C1.
As for the blade the mk1 C1 uses a VA2/6 blade but the mk2 from around 2016 uses a TOY48 blade & they are definitely not interchangeable. The VA2/6 is a single track key & the TOY48 is a double track key. It certainly is possible to cut keys from a picture.

Thank you! You helped alot.

By the way, I found someone selling a genuine key, second hand online and I thought I'd prefer to have the original one with the logo and maybe better quality, something like that: https://www.car-keys-online.com/genuine ... 89580.html

Do you know what's the part number for the blade only? I assume TOY48 is just the profile but the edge part may have different shapes (the part that's inside the mechanism)

Citroen dont sell the blades for the flip keys seperately so there wont be a part number. TOY48 is the profile an how its cut. For example Hyundai & Kia use the same blank blade as the TOY48 but its known as HY22/KIA7 as they are cut differently.
The blade in the picture in the link you posted is TOY48 which is what you need for this car.

Thank you. The website in the link does not ship to me, and also what's confusing is that I found two more variations for the TOY48 : one with flat end like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004505275512.html

Unlike the previous link where it's sort of triangle, and I also found one with a triangle but with a hole (and the triangle is slightly different): https://a.aliexpress.com/_onehWiS

Sorry for so many questions, I just got confused and I really wanted the original key 😅

The first link the blade base fitting is for a universal remotes.
2nd link is for blades that fit into OEM type remotes

I'm sorry, I didn't give the 3rd link for the triangle type without hole: https://www.car-keys-online.com/afterma ... en-c1.html

It says it's also for flip, but without the hole? This is what I was talking about and just forgot to provide link

Also - if I buy a second-hand remote - will the procedure to re-program it work as in the video? OR it only works for un-programmed new remotes?

I have never tried to re use one of these but I imagine the remote can be re programmed to another car but the chip won’t be as 8A(H) chips lock when programmed.
I would get one with a TOY48 blade already attached to it. The bases can be different between original & aftermarket remotes

thank you,

Do they lock and then even if I go to a locksmith he won't be able to re-program it? i.e. I'd need to also buy a new chip?
Also, for the original unit, it's not possible to buy second hand with blank base unless I buy one from the dealer. I wish I had a picture of how a genuine base looks like, so many options lol

I think I might give it a try though to program it just as a remote and use the key to start (as my previous car also was separate and it's still more convenient)

You cant buy just the blade from dealer, the dealers only sell complete remote.
Yes the chip locks to the car so you cant reprogram it to a different car

Yep, dealers sell only the complete :/

One more thing and that's it!
One of the comments on the YouTube videos above mentioned that they bought a used key like I plan to do, and this manually reprogramming the remote didn't work
So maybe there's a chance that even the remote is "locked" once it's programmed to a car.

In case the method doesn't work to reprogram the remote - do you know if I go to a locksmith - can the remote be programmed via their special device and not just the immobilizer?

Can't say with respect to yours but I needed a second key for the recently deaded Civic. An Autolocksmith came to the door, programmed a Peugeot key fob and cut the manual key for £130, including the fob & key.

The remote is programmed manually on this car, cant be done via diagnostics.
As i said I’ve never tried using a second hand one on this car but i wouldn’t have thought it locks. I do know the Toyota H chip locks once programmed though.
