How TO AVOID A MESS when removing XANTIA FRONT SPHERES

Unread post by citroenroen »

HELLO,
Is there any way to not make a mess / leak LHM all over the place when removing Xantia front spheres?
When removing my Xantia front spheres, I try to catch all the LHM run-off but there must be a better way that a more experienced Citroen Xantia owner could suggest .... perhaps with pictures?
Is there a special LHM catch basin that I could make or buy?
Thank you in advance for recommendations .

Nope...

I used to put a disposable nappy* under them way back in the past to catch the investable spill...

Just use some rags wrapped round the joint to catch any jets of LHM (if the diaphragm is knackered) and absorbent paper............LHM does not damage paint like brake fluid so I just wipe it away.

Only a ruptured sphere diaphragm will cause a "big" mess

Rags around the joint is the only real way, though if the sphere is internally ruptured, it's going to make some kind of mess anyway.

I will suggest that, when you do get the spheres replaced, you might want to loosen them off every six months or so. Then do them up hand tight (that will be tight enough). Then, when you come to replace the spheres in the future, they will not be so tight as to require 'unusual methods' to remove them (I have had to use a hammer and chisel to start them turning in the past).
