Choosing a scan tool for my DS5

Unread post by Cristache39 »

Hi everyone,

Sorry if i’m repeating the topic, if so please give me a link to an old one.🙏🏼

I’m trying to get a scanning tool for my car and i found at someone 2 tools, x-diag 3 which is on phone and Diagbox.
I know that Diagbox is the right one for Citroen but the guy told me that on x-diag (which is from Launch i guess) is able to do the same stuffs like Diagbox and it’s a little bit cheaper.

Should i go with Diagbox? I found also a lot of versions on Aliexpress but i don’t know how efficient are. Thank you, have an easy day!

Diagbox is the software used by Stellantis, but can be fiddly to setup on a laptop.
I can't really comment on other systems as I only use Diagbox.

Hi Marc,

I understood. I was thinking also to purchase Diagbox in order to be sure that i have all the features.
Any advice from where it’s better to buy it? 🙏🏼

The supplier many recommend here on this Forum is awaiting a new system, so has no supplies of the Lexia 3 kits at present going forward.
We are waiting to see what these will be and when they will be available.

I've got Diagbox, one of the cheap Chinese cloned systems running on a laptop.

I've used it a handful of times, I'm sure it's capable of doing everything, but it's awful to use. Probably OK if you use it regularly and get familiar with its quirks, I have to randomly dig into obscurely named menus every time I use it.

The generic systems that are used by independent garages look vastly more intuitive.

Can you please advise me on the diagbox to buy?

I was speaking to a tech at a Peugeot main dealer the other week & they dont even have the new system yet so i would think it will be a while before the fake clones & hacked software flood the market.
From what i heard its going to be based on the Fiat system & think all the Stellantis group diag tools are going to be based on the same system.

Understood, then i’m not going to wait anymore.
But do you have any idea if after the launch of the new version the Diagbox will be let’s say unplugged?
If it will be still usable then fine for me.

The older hacked copies of Diagbox are totally offline so dont see how they they could be switched off.
I still have an original Lexia 3 which was replaced by Diagbox around 2008. Still works fine.
