C4X - My Citroën Drive Plus

Unread post by AndyPhillips69 »

Hi, new to the forum.

I've had my 73 reg C4X for nearly 3 weeks now, loved it the first week until issues with the infotainment system. Been back to main dealer, who can't help (so I may be giving the car back!!).

Was wondering whether anybody else has encountered same problems and whether they got resolved.

Car stopped talking to the My Citroen App on 16th Jan, which is where I now think things started to go wrong....

My Mrs drove the car back from work on 19th, no issues. We were going out that night so into the car and noticed that Sat Nav wasn't working. Got to where we were going and noticed that the reversing camera and sensors weren't working.

Thought I'd sort it next day with a system reset, but nothing worked. So in total -

Reversing Camera not coming on
Parking sensors rear and front not working
In built satnav not working
Dual zone climate control not working
Both the "Home" and "car" buttons on the dashboard do nothing (so only way of controlling what I can on the screen is by choosing my profile from the top of the screen"
The system can see my phone via Bluetooth, but when I try to connect it says "Device limit reached" so can't even connect Android Auto (I've tried a USB cable, but it only recognises my phone as a USB device)

.... and the oddest one, the system seems to think that I have heated seats, which I don't!

Understand its a new model and there will be teething problems, and guessing its had a dodgy OTA update

Is there anybody who's had similar issues? Surely o can't be the only one as the same system is in C5X too?

Basically as it's under warranty take it back. I wouldn't attempt any investigative work yourself or intervention for warranty reasons.

These issues may be a telematics issue (Head Unit) that is responsible for a lot of the issues stated. Whether it requires a firmware update I can't say from here, but those issues should not be happening on any version of firmware.

Thanks Marc, main dealer was confused too, tried getting in touch with Citroen lT, but failed.

Still drives great though, so my guess is an update which was either faulty or incomplete...

Wouldn't think of trying to fix it myself, as you say it's under warranty, so if I don't get a fix, I'll try to get them to swap it for another (which may have the same issues).

Was just wondering if anybody else had issues, did find somebody in Chile with the same issue via Google and possibly some on a Turkish forum.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue, took my car into Citroen last Friday and their tech at head office level wanted to keep the car plugged in over the weekend so they could try to communicate with it, had a call today saying they still don’t know what’s wrong and have raised the fault to the next level whatever that is? Anyone else had these issues or can advise on this

It may take a while for them to get a response from France which is where their tech. support it for these issues.

Update from main dealer today (they have 4 with the same issue).

From IT department in Romania, OTA update around the weekend from 19/01 may have been corrupt so sending another (though I've not had mine yet)

Like I said previously, new model, new software, new gremlins ..

Tech expert in the dealer is stumped as he's got 4, another local dealer has 2.

Watch this space. I've given them 30 days from when I reported the issues to fix, or they can sort me out with something else....

That will figure as I've been assisting others with C5X and C4X models that have been trying to update their touchscreen systems and at least one has blue-screened, so sounds like a corrupt firmware, especially for these vehicles that can update over the air.

I've since sent them the updates directly.

There are known issues with the systems on the C4X and C5X at present, as both these vehicles can have 'Over The Air' (OTA) updates for maps and firmware. It is my understanding that a faulty firmware was issued in January 2024 that has adversely affected some of these vehicles.

I believe they are working on a new version for release, so may be a while until it is released., but do advise your dealership as they need to know that this is unacceptable.

NO firmware or software should be pushed out to the end user and forced on them without permission. This is what can happen. It's like automatic updates on TVs and Blu-Ray players that can do more harm than they fix.

It should always be a consumer choice.

Latest update from the main dealers, this is now at level 4 of the OTA team and they're supposed to have pushed an update at 10.22 last night.... not appeared yet...

Now up to 5 cars in my dealer and 3 in another dealer as well as us here.

There's no other way apart from OTA to update software on these units....

Another update for anyone following.... the Citroen OTA update pushed out earlier this week worked for 2 cars my dealer had in... but I've not received it yet.

Service department have been very good at keeping in touch and we're quite surprised that Stellantis customer services haven't been in touch at all. They're waiting for a courtesy car to come in so that they can get my car in and try what they know now works..... unless the OTA comes in the meantime.

No need Marc, there's no way to get it onto the car apart from OTA, local dealer has tried everything right down to getting the correct software from Citroen onto a USB and only OTA worked.... system recognises a usb as a media player only.

I think (hope) that they finally have the issue identified....

Next car won't have OTA only (or they've learned their lessons from this).

Just keeping the other 2 members with the same issue informed.

The system always looks for media files first, and will give a message about no media being found, but then it should pick up any update files afterwards.

I know it has been a bone of contention with people complaining about doing updates with the engine running on USB's and all the faffing about, but equally OTA is not always the solution as can be seen. I just believe there has to be an alternative to updating the unit manually, as I know in some non-EU countries, they don't have access to the servers for OTA updates in any case.

Latest in this long going saga..... the main dealers have finally realised that I'm not happy. No OTA update yet... but the car is going in to them tomorrow under warranty and I get a courtesy car (it's supposed to be a like for like on Warranty so expecting a C4 or C4x). 7 weeks with a car where all functions worked properly for a week.

I'm keeping that courtesy car until mine is 100% (should have done that on day 1....but they were out of courtesy cars).
