Hi - I have a 2009 C5 X7 estate and am attempting to find the cause of a knocking from the front offside. Having stripped the F/O/S hub, I am trying to fit new upper and lower steering bearings. The first problem is sourcing the correct bearings. I ordered the lower bearing, using the vendor's "will it fit", only to find the inner bearing diameter to small. Checked again, using the VIN, to be told they had provided the correct one! How can I obtain a bearing that fits, and where from?
Second problem is how to remove the upper steering bearing. I bought the correct socket, have left it dowsed in penetrating fluid, but after several days and a huge extension bar, it refuses to move. Any ideas? Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: C5 X7 front lower steering bearing!
Are you talking about the upper ball joints and the bottom 'frip' joints?
When you knocked the lower frip joint off did it leave part of the old bearing attached to the hub?
Mine did and I had to slice it carefully with a Dremel to get it off.
I did my upper ball joints by removing the whole assembly and attacking them on the workbench. They were bloody tight and took a length of scaffold tube on a 3/4 breaker bar to undo them.
Good fun though.

Exactly the same! Cut off bit of old bearing from the "frip" joint - but the new "frip" joint was too small to fit the hub. Any idea where I can source a correct one? Thanks.

There's only 1 part number for all variants, so suggests you have got the wrong one - it may well be an interference fit in the hub? Not sure. How much too small is it?

Re: C5 X7 front lower steering bearing!
I used a genuine Citroen part on one side which was a 364072, and a Febi 38490 on the other.
The part in the Febi kit was exactly the same SKF manufactured part as the part that came in the Citroen packaging.
I used a Laser 7332 tool to remove that upper ball joint which worked well as it could be bolted down to the joint so it wouldn't slip off (which is a very good thing when you're swinging off the end of a fair length of scaffold tube).
