Hi all. Had my 2016 Expert 2.0 130bhp since May 22. It's always smoked at startup but always cleared pretty quickly. Heater plugs have been replaced but no change. I was going to sell it this week, January Winter in the UK where the temps got below zero. The battery has taken a beating and may need replaced. Voltage at rest is 12.4 and it barely wants to turn over, however it does start right away when it does. The smoke is now embarrassingly bad, bellowing across the neighbours gardens and on down the street for anything up to 1 minute.
I've taken it to a garage. They've said the battery is kaput but all readings from injectors are fine so they did a Leak Off test and that was apparently fine too. So they've suggested a Bench Test of all 4 costing at least £160.
My questions are is it necessary to Bench Test the injectors if the Leak Off is OK and could it be the EGR Cooler leaking coolant in to EGR? The EGR Cooler is broken as it's gassing the coolant reservoir. He's quotes around £320 for each new injector, plus the £160 for Bench Test, plus his time (he doesn't do the bench test). To add when it's warmed up it's very smooth and even running which makes me think there's nothing wrong with the injectors at all. It doesn't smoke under load either when warm. Barely an expected puff of grey smoke.
I'm no novice and fell he's having my eyes out. The van is only worth about £3500.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Leak Off test Results OK, but still smoking.

How many miles has it done ? Engine/valve guide/turbo wear can all lead to smoke on starting up.

Ah it's done 186,000 miles. It's incredibly smooth and even when running though.
It's just occurred to me that I haven't changed one of the four glow plugs; the one behind the fuel filter. I best see to that before I moan any further. It's especially bad in sub zero temps and sounds like a cylinder is off, so after all this time it could be that 4th glow plug. However, like you say, with these miles could be a lot of things.
