Citroen ds3 front wipers stop halfway

For the past week, my windscreen wipers have been playing up! They will start working then judder and stop in the middle of my windscreen. Other times they will not come on at all.

Did this by chance happen after trying to operate the wipers whilst they were frozen to the screen or after trying to clear a foot of snow using the wipers?

We don’t get snow where we live. Other people drive the car too. It is possible that they operated the wiper when we had a few freezing morning.
What mechanism is used to home the wipers properly? Is it mechanical or electronic? Thanks

It's a single motor assembly that mechanically drives both wiper arms.

I took the motor out and disassembled it. This is what I found inside.

Ok, I bought a new motor. How do i make sure that when I put it back together, it homes properly? Thank you.

I would have thought you fit the motor, run it and it should stop in the right place. Then fit the wipers, hopefully you marked the windscreen before they were removed to save a bit of trial and error getting them in the right place when parked.

ALWAYS....(ask me why ) for the first couple of "switch-ons" do it with the arms NOT FITTED.....that way you can check the sweep is correct (ish) by a marked line on the splined boss and not a destructive 180 deg out.
