Advice re 208 Active 1.0 2014

I’m new to the forum and looking for advice on a recently purchased 2014 208 petrol Active 1.0. The car is one owner from new with just 20k miles. I’m happy with it in every respect but want to future proof it as much as possible. Apart from the obvious consumables like tyres, battery etc., I’m particularly wondering about replacing timing and drive belts. I know low mileage but older cars can present their own maintenance issues, so any thoughts on whether to replace timing and/or drive belts in these circs would be welcome. Thank you.

Well the timing belt if it has not been done is likely due NOW! They are usually due at the 10 year mark if the mileage has not been reached due to the age.

Pop your VIN up and I'll check the timing schedules to be sure, but it is 10 years old now.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the prompt and helpful response. I’ve now got the car booked in to replace the timing belt and 2 x aux belts. Nevertheless I’d appreciate the additional info you offer, the VIN is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Your servicing intervals are every 16k miles or Annually, whichever comes first.

Brake Fluid every 2 years
Air Filter every 32k miles or 4 years
Spark Plugs, every 32k miles or 4 years
Pollen filter every 16k miles or 2 years
PH coolant check 80k miles / 4 years then every 16k miles or annually
Ancillary Drive Belt every 80k miles or 6 years
Ancillary drive belt KIT (rollers tensioners / belt) every 112k miles or 10 years
Timing Kit (belt, rollers water pump) every 112k miles or at 10 years
Rear Brake Drums every 58k miles

Thank you. One last question, I’ve read elsewhere that the engine in this car is a Toyota variant and not Peugeot. Can you confirm that please?

No that's not the case, it's basically a Puretech engine manufactured by PSA and was fitted to the Aygo on some models.

I'm considering purchasing the exact same car on behalf of my mother.

I've been trying to find out if it has the wet timing belt which I won't buy.

Yes, these are 3 cylinder EBO engines, so have wet belt systems.

Don't be scared by wetbelts. They are actually good engines. You only have to make the maintanance better. Don't follow original oil changes intervals. 10t kms or 1 year is the most you can do on the oil with these engines. If you're traveling shorter distances you should do oil change rather by 6000 kms because when the engine is cold the oil is diluted by gasoline. Also change the belt every 80t kms or 5 years and you are good to go.

PS: Use only recommended oil for that engine. If you use wrong oil, the belt will melt away.

Got a 2015 C1 Flair VTi 68 1.0

Such nonsense about wrong oil and saying nothing wrong with wet belts... Tell that to all those who didn't know what they bought.

Every engine has it's ups and downs. Generally speaking there is nothing catastrophic about wetbelts. You just have to keep up with stricter maintanance. That's nothing compared to stretchy timing chains or failing turbos or failing rod bearings that some other engines had when they came out. Cought, talking about you TSI engines.
Tell that to all those who didn't know what they bought.
Boohoo, they bought something without learning anything about it. What a mistake... from them. That doesn't mean the engine is bad. It means that they did not do their homework...

Oh yeah? That's why Stellantis have started a recompensation scheme for wet belts.

Glad I avoided that bullet after getting hit with the C5 steering rack bullet but for now it is still on the road. 1L LDS steering rack fluid in 3 1/2 years I don't think is too bad.

Learned yesterday that my niece has a 3008 with a wet belt.
Told my brother to get her to get rid of it sharpish.
