Is the Citroen C1 2018 timing belt dipped in oil?

Unread post by Lecit »

Hello,

sorry for keeping asking about the oil. I just keep getting different answers.

The car is Citroen C1 2018 998cc, 1KR-FE engine.

I was told by the Citroen importer in my country I need to use 5W30 B71 2297 oil.

But then I found the service manual for the "twin" car - the Toyota Aygo 2018 and it's written there that 0W20 would be the best, and nothing about B71 2297. I assume because B71 2297 is a PSA standard and not Toyota.
Because in the Toyota manual it only says:

0W20 with API SL, SM, or SL, and if 0W20 is not available, then 5W30 is also good (But needs to be replaced in the next oil change).

I then called a parts store close by and asked them what oil I need for the Citroen C1 2018 and they told me "You need 5W30 C2".

I then asked them "Do I not need B71 2297?" And then they searched and said: "Oh yea, you must use B71 2297 because the Citroen C1 2018 timing belt is dipped in oil".

Is that true? I am so confused, I was sure I was already going to get the B71 2297 but keep getting contradicting information.

Also, the B71 2297 cost 70 euros, and a standard API SN / C2 is half the price.

What oil do I need then?

Sorry that's my second post about that, but I thought it was solved and then that.

thanks

Because the timing belt runs in oil, you must always fill it with the oil specified by Citroen.
This oil has the appropriate additives that this timing belt needs - otherwise it will disintegrate and particles will be released that clog the oil suction port.
This leads to premature "engine death" in vehicles with timing belts in the oil

Before I can confirm, I'll need your VIN as there are multiple engine types for this vehicle and some have actual timing chains not belts. It all depends on the specific engine and Euro standard, so cannot provide the correct info until we know exactly which engine you have.

Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

I thought all the 1.0 engines were the same as the Toyota Aygo engine with a timing chain.
The 1.2 Puretech with a flakey belt in oil was used in the late C1 & 108 (but Toyota (probably wisely) didn't use it in the Aygo).

There are 4 types of '1KR' engine, all of which have timing chains of different specifications. There are then 3 types of EB2 engines that could of been fitted, hence needing to know for sure which he has.

thank you guys,
Marc, if all 1KR engines are timing chains then I also have timing chain (1KR-FE) and not a fitted EB2 thus I can assume it is not dipped in oil?
