Bluetooth - Music Delay/Latency

Unread post by Karolis Vansevicius »

Hello,

I have Citroen c5 2012 with RT6 player (I think it's RT6). When playing music from phone, there's very very big latency in audio (on phone music shows playing, but car will start to play in about 1-2sec.)
No problems with phone calls.
Using with iPhone.
What could cause this problem?

Thank you!

All streaming is laggy to some extent as it's not a direct wired connection, but more so with streaming. Make sure you are on the latest firmware for your iPhone and your Head Unit.

Streaming via bluetooth should have almost zero latency. Is the head unit problem, not the phone.
Where can I find latest firmware for my player? Also, do I need some programming via lexia after firmware upgrade?
thank you

There will be a slight latency issue - especially if there was a visual element like a video where you would see the lips move out of synch as an example. But because it's just audio, you don't notice it. Bluetooth 5.0 has further improved this, but both transmitting and receiving devices have to support the same implementation.

The latest and last firmware version is 2.86b. However, be warned that a firmware upgrade may need dealer intervention to reconfigure depending on your existing firmware. There are no guarantees that it will update without intervention. Always ensure you use the Mirascripts Part 'A' to make a backup of your existing configuration before the update and part 'B' to later restore it after the update from the guide here:

Check your Private Messages for a link to V2.86 of the firmware.

Do I notice some serious improvements in this FW version?

PSA don't advise as to what the firmware content does, but generally it's for bug fixes, updates to bluetooth software to improve compatibility with newer phones (at the time of the firmware release of course) and other fixes / improvements.

Ok, I think I will keep with the current FW. Too much risk if there's only bug's fix... Only bug is the BT latency :D

I'm conflicted - I have the same time delay on when streaming music (I click to next track from the steering wheel, which changes the track display on the phone, but the audio arrives a few moments later....) but trying to balance instant track changes versus the risks is difficult...
If I'm reading this (and other posts) right - mirascript backup then firmware update.
What are the issues I may be presented with if the FW upgrade doesn't work? And if the issues DO present, does the Mirascript backup bring you back to Square 1 (no harm no foul, frustrating, but nothing broken?).

This can be down to your phone and the software / bluetooth protocol. There is ALWAYS going to be a delay when changing something via the vehicle control as it has to transmit to the phone wirelessly and the phone to react and send the info back. This doesn't happen with a wired connection of course.

This is not something you are going to fix with a firmware update, unless there is a serious lag that may be down to the protocol used and software on the phone and or head unit.

As said, Mirascripts will NOT help you if the firmware resets the configuration of the RT6 back to factory defaults as this version is a major firmware update. It can affect RT6 units differently, depending on the existing firmware that is installed on the unit.

Mirascripts is a backup of the user data stores on the flash memory of the RT6 and is used to backup and later restore settings when replacing the MicroSD card. This won't help though if the upgrade does cause a factory reset. But I do recommend you take a backup as per my guide in any case, as it is always better to have these files backed up.

Some upgrades have no issues at all, but on some systems it can result in lost options and missing options. It is a risk and there are no guarantees it won't happen.

What version of firmware are you currently running on your RT6. I may be able to check so see the likelihood of a reset happening.

Hi

That's not the firmware version.

To identify the audio-navigation system software version of the RT6 observe the following procedure:
  • Press and hold the "SETUP" button.
  • Select: Audio/telephone diagnostics ; Confirm.
  • Select: Description of the installation ; Confirm.
  • View the software version displayed.
