Peugeot 2008 (2022 model) service schedule? (UK)

Unread post by King Mustard »

I received my Peugeot 2008 (2022 model) on 01/02/2022.

It had its first service, which was an interim service, on 28/01/2023 (7,843 miles).

It is now late 2023 and I believe the second service is due by 01/02/2024.

It is currently at around 15,500 miles.

I am finding it difficult to find the car's service schedule.

Am I correct in thinking the second service is a major service this time around?

The services are different with specific operations being done at the specific intervals, and essential that you have them done annually if you are doing less than the mileage interval, as this will affect any warranty.

Brake fluid is every 2 years for example, but the specific operations are determined at each service like the timing belt. If you want to see the main items, I'll need your VIN. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

When a car is new with the documents the dealer hands over a single sheet of paper which lists the service schedule and oil type. If you can not find this a dealer should be able to print it out for you and is worth getting again. On top of this to maintain the bodywork corrosion warranty you need it checked by a dealer at 4 years and then every 2 years and the dealer will stamp the relevant page in the Warranty/service booklet.

Our local dealer tends to be busy so we have resorted to booking the services/MOTs at least 2 months in advance.

Hi both,

I lease the car and was not given the maintenance schedule. I was not aware it was supposed to be handed to me. I presume the owners of the car (the lease company) still have it.

The Peugeot app only states when a service is needed, and what needs to be checked as part of it. However, it does not state which years I need a service (i.e. a schedule) and whether it's an interim or full service I would need.

The average consumer does not know what happens as part of each type of service (interim/full) - i.e. if a specific filter is replaced etc. We just want to go take it, know the type of service it needs (interim/full), and assume it's all done and the car's warranty is kept intact.

I think the schedule is as below, but I am not 100% sure.

Year 1 - Interim
Year 2 - Main
Year 3 - Interim
Year 4 - Major

The VIN is VR3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

That's exactly what will happen if you have it dealer serviced. They know exactly what has to be done at each service. They don't provide details now of what is done at each service (except for which service - minor / major) and what parts were used which are shown on the invoice. The maintenance and warranty booklet issued now only has the anti perforation checks and a slot for each service - there are no further details shown as to what is done at each service in this booklet.

For normal conditions (not arduous):

Services: systematic operations: Every 12500 Miles / 1 year(s)
  • Replacement of the passenger compartment filter: Every 12500 Miles / 1 year(s)
  • Replacement of the brake fluid: Every 2 year(s)
  • Check of the headlamp adjustment: 4 year(s) Then every 2 year(s)
  • Replacement of the air filter: Every 25000 Miles / 4 year(s)
  • Replacement of the spark plugs: Every 25000 Miles / 4 year(s)
  • Check of the PH of the coolant: 75000 Miles / 4 year(s) Then every 12500 Miles / 1 year(s)
  • Replacement of the ancillary drive belt: 62500 Miles / 6 year(s) Then every 125000 Miles / 12 year(s)
  • Replacement of the timing belt: 62500 Miles / 6 year(s) Then every 125000 Miles / 12 year(s)
  • Replacement of the coolant: Every 112500 Miles / 10 year(s)
  • Replacement of the ancillary drive belt kit: 125000 Miles / 12 year(s) Then every 125000 Miles
  • Replacement of the timing kit: 125000 Miles / 12 year(s) Then every 125000 Miles

The car is two years old in 30 days time and it is currently on 15,500 miles.

Do you think if I take it to Halfords / Kwik-Fit and get a Main (Peugeot's term for Full, I presume?) service done on it, everything will be sorted?

Personally speaking, I only have mine dealer-serviced, as I want assurance that everything is done as per the schedule and that the correct oils are used (critical in your case with the 1.2 EB2 engine with belt in oil system). You won't get the additional checks needed as regards timing belt condition at each service from Kwik Fit / Halfords and I wouldn't use them in any case, they are just not trained on the specific engines.

If you are leasing it, I don't know what the conditions are for servicing in your case or what the stipulations are, but it really must be kept to the specified servicing intervals for warranty reasons alone.

Dealership services tend to be so much more expensive (for little gain) and as this is only a three-year lease car, I don't care as much as if it was my own car.

I will have to have a think.

Of course dealers will use OEM parts not cheaper ones and you are paying for the technical expertise and training that they have to go through and warranty on the parts used.

Your choice of course where you get it done, but just ensure it's done within the annual limit.

These are Peugeot's fixed price servicing - as a guide, but beware the note that this excludes the 2008.....

If the 3 year warranty covers you I would not entertain taking the car to anywhere other than your Peugeot dealer. If something goes wrong in the next year and it has not been dealer serviced there is a chance the warranty might be void or harder to claim against, not worth the risk if you have to pay for repairs.

Going by the service items listed I assume you have a 1.2 puretech engine, in the past these engines have had problems at low mileages so something to be aware of but hopefully these are a thing of the past.

Legally they cannot make you go to the dealer for servicing - that has to be a choice, but the issue arises if the alternative garage of choice used for the servicing does not complete the full service or checks required specific to the exact standards and specs. So if you go to a non-dealer for servicing you will need to keep copies of all the servicing work undertaken to evidence a possible future claim whilst in warranty or for some components that are warranted past the standard 3 years.

Also possible that the leasing company have their own stipulations regarding inspections and servicing.
